Interfacial interaction

The phase-field method has become a robust tool to describe the complex crack nucleation and propagation in heterogeneous materials. In these materials, an interaction between bulk brittle damage and interfacial damage through the splitting the strain tensor into a bulk strain part and a jump strain part at the interfaces.

This paper reports on the extraction of microcrystal cellulose from cotton fiber and their application as a reinforcing agent in NR matrix. Microcrystalline cellulose was also grafted with maleic anhydride (MA) so that grafted one can improve interfacial interaction between cellulose and natural rubber. Fillers were incorporated to block natural rubber by two-roll mill dry mixing.

This is mainly due to the appearance of a rod like structure on neat PS which has improved the dispersion as well as provides a higher interface area that enhanced the UV-absorption efficiency of the PS matrix. This analysis is equally supported by the PALS study where the free volume was closely associated with the interfacial interaction between the filler and the PS matrix.
