Inocybe viscida sp. nov., a novel species found in a forest with old trees of Pinus brutia and tertiary relict endemic Liquidambar orientalis in coastal area of southwestern Turkey, is described and illustrated. We present this new species based on morphological and molecular data from nuclear rDNA internal transcribed spacer region (ITS1-5.8SITS2 = ITS) and the portions of nuc 28S rRNA (LSU) gene. Comprehensive description, field photographs, line drawings of the microscopic features and comparisons with phenetically similar taxa and phylogenetically related species are discussed.

Aethionema aytachii Ertuğrul & Hamzaoğlu, a new species from central Anatolia that grows on marly hills in the Ayaş district of Ankara Province (Turkey), is described and its relationships and distinguishing characters from the closest relative A. dumanii are discussed. The shape of pollen grains of A. aytachii is tricolpate, and its seed-coat sculpture is verrucate. Sequence data of the internal transcribed spacer region (ITS) of the new species was used to determine about its phylogenetic relation within Aethionema.

Saxifraga artvinensis V.A.Matthews, which is endemic to Turkey, was discovered on Tiryal Mountain (A8 Artvin, northeastern Turkey). Approximately 175 km from its type locality, a new population of the species was discovered, in the Picea orientalis forest in the Altındere Valley National Park, in A7 Trabzon (northeastern Turkey). A comparison with the known population of S. artvinensis confirmed that this new population represented a new taxon and is described as S. artvinensis subsp. meryemii Terzioğlu & Coşkunç.

Pluteus and Volvopluteus are two closely related genera of Pluteaceae that comprise saprotrophic fungi. Although the genera have been well-studied in Europe and North and South America, the diversity of Pluteus, mainly Pluteus sect. Pluteus, and Volvopluteus in Turkey is poorly known due to insufficient morphological descriptions and a lack of DNA sequence data. In this study, the diversity of Pluteus sect. Pluteus and Volvopluteus in Turkey is evaluated by employing both morphological features and phylogenetic approaches. A general phylogeny of Pluteus sect.

A molecular key based on the sequence of the internal transcribed spacer (ITS) of the ribosomal cistron was used for the identification of common Trichogramma (Hymenoptera: Trichogramma tidae) species found in agricultural field of Alhassa oasis in Saudi Arabia. The aligned sequences were checked using BLAST program at GenBank. The sequences of the three ITS region were the same and shared identities ranged from 98.3 to 99.4% against all Trichogramma cacoeciae sequences at the GenBank.

Total heterogeneous grouping was observed for the Chaetomium species using the calmodulin sequences. Among all the regions studied in this study for grouping the most diversified grouping was observed with rpb2 gene. Better homogeneity was observed even with tef-1 region. But among all ITS was established as the best region for grouping of Chaetomium species.

Characterization of guava root knot nematode, Meloidogyne enterolobii occurring in Tamil Nadu, India
Root knot nematodes (Meloidogyne spp.) are the most common and destructive plant parasitic nematode group with wide host range of crops, including guava (Psidium guajava L.). Meloidogyne enterolobii (Syn:M. mayaguensis), the root knot nematode of the guava tree, belongs to the group of tropical root knot nematodes and is considered as one of the most damaging species, due to its wide host range, pathogenicity and ability to develop and reproduce on several crops carrying resistance genes.

The fungus Venturia carpophila causes scab in almond. In order to gain insight, an in vitro culture of the fungus has been established and its identity confirmed by its nr DNA. Internal transcribed spacer-ribosomal DNA (ITS-rDNA); the fungal molecular marker was used for molecular analysis. The target region of rDNA (ITS1-5.8S-ITS2) of this species was amplified using universal fungal primers (ITS1 and ITS4).

The aim of this study was to determine the phylogenetic relationships of Trichoderma isolates obtained from NLS Tobacco region. Utilizing the sequence analysis of internal transcribed spacer-1 (ITS-1) region of the ribosomal DNA the rDNA of Five Trichoderma isolates was amplified by polymerase chain reaction (PCR) using universal primers (ITS-1 and ITS-4). PCR products were purified and these purified products were used to amplify the ITS-4 region of the five Trichoderma isolates.

The potent native bioagents isolated from tomato rhizosphere have high antagonistic potential against Phytophthora infestans. Molecular characterization of fungal isolates (T-11 and T-14) was performed by using Internal Transcribed Spacer (ITS) region of 18S rRNA sequence. The sequence analyses of two isolates (MK928414 and MK928417), showed 100% similarity with Trichoderma asperellum during BLAST analysis. The phylogeny tree constructed by using sequence analysis showed the formation of cluster along with T. asperellum and both the isolates were identified as T. asperellum.

Jewels of Opar (Talinum paniculatum) is a herbaceous plant known for its highly medicinal value. This medicinal plant is listed in the Red List of Vietnam’s medicinal plants and in the handbook of Vietnam’s medicinal plants, both documents warranting its necessity for protection. Jewels of Opar contains bioactive substances such as phytosterols, saponins, flavonoids, tannins, steroids, and many other inorganic substances. Jewels of Opar plants collected in Thanh Hoa, Vietnam, are tree-like herbs, their green trunks grows straight up and then branch out.

Twenty-three populations belonging to 10 wild Primula L. (Primulaceae) taxa of Turkey, some of which are morphologically quite similar, were investigated based on nrDNA ITS regions. The plant materials were collected from different geographical areas of Anatolia in vegetation periods of 2005 and 2006. Total genomic DNAs were isolated from the healthy leaves of each population.
