Invasive urothelial carcinoma

A combination of immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) and chemotherapy has demonstrated excellent clinical efficacy and safety in treating a variety of cancers, including urothelial carcinoma (UC). However, its efficacy and safety in patients with muscle-invasive upper tract urothelial carcinoma (UTUC) who are undergoing radical surgery remain uncertain.

Three-quarters of bladder cancer patients present with early-stage disease (non-muscle-invasive bladder cancer, NMIBC, UICC TNM stages Ta, T1 and Tis); however, most next-generation sequencing studies to date have concentrated on later-stage disease (muscle-invasive BC, stages T2+).

Immune checkpoint inhibitors have revolutionized the treatment of patients with advanced urothelial carcinoma (UC) in the frontline and relapsed settings. Lebanon has one of the highest incidence of UC worldwide, yet no data exists regarding the expression of PD-L1 by Combined Positive Score (CPS) in advanced disease.

Urothelial carcinoma (UC) is among the most prevalent malignancies. The muscle-invasive bladder cancer (MIBC) shows an invasive feature and has poor prognosis, while the non-muscle invasive bladder cancer (NMIBC) shows a better prognosis as compared with the MIBC.

Muscle invasive urothelial bladder carcinoma (MIBC) present RB1 and TP53 somatic alterations in a variable percentage of tumors throughout all molecular subtypes. MIBCs with neuroendocrine features have a high response rate to immunity checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs).

The risk of positive lymph nodes in patients with muscle-invasive bladder urothelial carcinoma (MIBC) can be used to guide treatment recommendations. However, little is known about the effect of age on lymph node positivity (LN+). This study aimed to evaluate the effect of age on LN+ in MIBC.

Urothelial carcinoma of the urinary bladder (UCB) is the 4th most common cancer type in men in developed countries, and tumor recurrence or progression occurs in more than half of the patients. This article describes the trends of UCB incidence and survival from 1981 to 2014, including both invasive and non-invasive UCB using data from the Cancer Registry of Norway.

Invasive urothelial carcinoma (iUC) is a major cause of death in humans, and approximately 165,000 individuals succumb to this cancer annually worldwide. Comparative oncology using relevant animal models is necessary to improve our understanding of progression, diagnosis, and treatment of iUC.

Invasive urothelial carcinoma (iUC) is highly similar between dogs and humans in terms of pathologic presentation, molecular subtypes, response to treatment and age at onset. Thus, the dog is an established and relevant model for testing and development of targeted drugs benefiting both canine and human patients.

Urinary bladder carcinoma is a common urologic malignancy, particularly in males. We studied the role of smoothelin (a cytoskeleton protein) as a diagnostic marker for muscularis propria invasion, differentiating it from the muscularis mucosae for proper staging in urinary bladder carcinoma patients. Paraffin blocks from 85 cases of bladder carcinoma: 69 urothelial carcinoma cases, 10 squamous cell carcinoma cases, 5 adenocarcinoma cases and one case neuroendocrine small cell carcinoma, were stained by smoothelin immunohistochemical marker.

The gold standard for the detection of urothelial carcinoma is represented by urethro-cystoscopy and biopsy. Both procedures are invasive and expensive and therefore cytology is often used as first approach to investigate on a possible neoplasia, being a safe and cost-effective diagnostic modality of evaluation.
