The experiment was carried out on Kinnow mandarin (Citrus reticulata Blanco.)” to see the “Effect of foliar spray of plant growth regulators and micro nutrients. The experiment was laid out in Randomized Block Design (RBD) having 15 treatments with three replications each. Foliar application of plant growth regulators and micro nutrients viz. NAA (20 & 40 ppm), 2,4-D (10 & 20 ppm), Zinc sulphate (0.5 %), Borax (0.5 %) alone and in combinations were applied twice in the month of April and May on 14 years old Kinnow trees.

Productivity of citrus trees depends on many abiotic and biotic factors, among which the adequate supply of micro nutrients is most important in Kinnow mandarin. Therefore a field trial was conducted to assess the effect of foliar application of different micronutrient concentrations on growth characteristics and shelf life of the Kinnow mandarin under rainfed conditions of Jammu.

Scarcity of irrigation water in critical growth stages of the crop is one of the major causes of low productivity and decline of citrus orchards. Regulated deficit irrigation (RDI) is a recently proposed water saving technique in irrigated agriculture. The present study was planned with a hypothesis that the optimal RDI scheduling at early fruit growth period (EFGP), which coincides with summer months could save substantial amount of water, without significantly affecting the yield of ‘Kinnow’ mandarin plants.

The present study was undertaken to observe the response of Kinnow Mandarin to different forms of growth regulators and nutrients. The result of investigation indicates that fruit length and diameter were found maximum with the foliar application of K2SO4 2%, shape index and ascorbic acid were found maximum with the foliar application of 2, 4-D 20 ppm, peel thickness, acidity, peel content were recorded minimum and juice content and TSS were recorded maximum with the foliar application 2, 4-D 10 ppm, while rag content was found maximum with the application of GA3 20 ppm.

The longest storage life was recorded in Sweet Orange cv. “Mosambi”, Mandarin cv. “Kinnow”, Acid Lime, Pineapple cv. “Queen”, Beetroot, Watermelon, Capsicum cv. “Bombay Green”, Cabbage, Ivy Gourd, Bitter Gourd (Green) and Hot chilli, and the shortest in Broccoli, Lettuce and Ridge Gourd inside cold room. Storage at Ecofrost at 10°C and 93% relative humidity can extend life and improve post-harvest quality retention for fruit and veggies, but its effects vary depending on the commodity.

A study aimed at evaluating the economics of cultivation of Kinnow mandarin (Citrus nobilis x Citrus deliciosa) using different integrated nutrient management treatments. Three organic manures (FYM, poultry manure and vermicompost) under three different experiments were used along with inorganic fertilizers and Azotobacter. Total cost of cultivation was maximum ( 98905.00) with the application of cent per cent application of nitrogen as vermicompost augmented with Azotobacter.

Kinnow mandarin is an important fruit of India but is highly perishable and liable to be spoiled under ambient conditions. Present investigation was conducted to study the effect various concentrations of Gum Arabic, Calcium Lactate and Glycerin and their different combination on shelf life of Kinnow fruits during storage at room temperature. Physiological loss in weight increased with increase in the period of storage. Total soluble solids, total sugars and reducing sugars were also increased up to 49 days of storage period in all treatments.

The study was undertaken to envisage the effect of growth regulators on biochemical parameters of Kinnow mandarin. Various concentrations of 2,4-D, GA3 and NAA were applied on 15th of October and 15th of November separately and in both the months. It was observed that biochemical parameters viz. TSS, TA, TSS:TA, total sugar, ascorbic acid and other antioxidant compounds were maximum when trees were sprayed with 20 ppm NAA in both the months ( 15th October + 15th November).

In Punjab sweet orange and commercial mandarin cultivars are generally grafted or budded on rootstock of rough lemon. This rootstock is highly vulnerable to phytophthora (foot rot) like diseases. Moreover, quality of kinnow plants budded or grafted on an effective rootstock should have good compatibility between both, scion and rootstock besides decent tolerance against predominant edaphic and environmental circumstances. The rootstocks have major effect in tree vigour, quality of the fruit, juice quality, yield including tolerance to salt and cold conditions.
