The research was done to isolate the common fungal agent involved in mycotic keratitis attending tertiary care hospital. The purpose of isolating the organisms is for the early diagnosis and treatment of the patients. The research lead to the finding that, Corneal trauma was the most common predisposing factor in the pathogenesis of mycotic keratitis, which was mostly seen in farmers i.e, agriculturists who are in the actively working age group.

The objectives of this study includes, to compare the detection rate and visualisation of fungal elements from samples of superficial fungal infection patients by KOH mount using standard technique and cellophane tape method and to compare the time taken for reporting of the same by these methods.

Otomycosis is often an infection of the pinna, the external auditory meatus, however, the disease may occur in the middle ear if the tympanic membrane is perforated. It is mainly characterized by pruritus, otalgia, aural fullness, hearing impairment and tinnitus. We collected ear swabs or skin scrapings from 150 suspected cases of otomycosis and subjected them for KOH mount and fungus culture.

The present study was carried out to know the prevalence of superficial fungal infection caused by dermatophytes and to speciate them which may help to control the infection. The aim of this study was to determine the prevalence of superficial fungal skin infections caused by dermatophytes, to study the clinic-mycological pattern and to speciate the isolated ones using standard mycological tests. The aim of this study is to isolate and identify the various organisms from cases of infective keratitis obtained from the department of ophthalmology in our college. Ninety six numbers of cases were included in this study, in the duration period of 18 months i.e. from January 2015 to June 2016. Onychomycosis is a fungal infection of the finger or toe nail caused by various fungal agents like dermatophytes, non dermatophytes moulds and yeasts. It is necessary to diagnose the infection with proper laboratory evidences before treating them with antifungal drugs, which require prolonged duration of treatment and may have adverse side effects. To study the various fungi causing otomycosis with its isolation and identification of species from the clinical laboratory of Vijayanagara Institute of Medical Sciences, Ballari, ear swab samples are collected from the department of ENT which is suspected for fungal cause of otomycosis. KOH mount was done for the presence of fungal elements and also Grams staining of the sample is done to look for uniformly stained Gram positive fungal elements.
