Present study deals with the constraints faced by the staff of Krishi Vigyan Kendras (KVKs) during their job in Marathwada. Study was conducted in all 12 KVKs functioning in Marathwada region of Maharashtra State, which includes 4 KVKs under the administrative control of VNMKV, Parbhani and remaining 8 KVKs run by NGOs. Study was undertaken in the year 2020 with purposive sampling method.

Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) is an Institutional Project of the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) to demonstrate the “Application” of Science and Technology input of agricultural research and education on the farmers field and in the rural area with the help of a multi-disciplinary team of scientists. This study has been conducted during Sep’2015 to Dec. 2015 at Adilabad block of Adilabad district in Telangana.

The Govt. of India has stressed for computer assisted extension system due to shortage of funds, large untrained staffs and inadequate extension personnel. A study conducted with 174 extension functionaries and 40 KVK scientists on competency of extension professionals revealed that the respondents had good access to computer, knowledge about various software applications and using computer in various aspects of the extension related job work. But, they did not have much expertise and confidence level.

The study was conducted in the state of Uttarakhand, with two purposively selected KVKs Dhakrani representing the plains region of Garhwal division and Bageshwarre presenting the hill region of Kumaon division. A simple random sampling technique was used to select 160 respondents from eight villages from both KVK. Finding of the study revealed that, majority of the beneficiaries had middle age group, educated up to higher secondary, medium family size, marginal land holding, medium media ownership, extension contact, information seeking behaviour and social participation.

The present study was conducted by Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Ganjam-II during 2015 and 2016 in rabi in three villages Khalingi, Jura, Sunathara. The KVK scientists have conducted frontline demonstration in sweetcorn with the active participation of farmers with the objective to demonstrate the improved technologies in crop. The improved technologies consisting use of improved variety (Madhuri), Integrated nutrient and weed management, pest and disease management.

Cluster front line demonstrations were organized in sunflower crop under NMOOP-2016 to enhance the productivity and profitability by demonstrating Best Management Practices (BMP’s) about 24 ha area in farmer’s fields of KVK operational villages namely Kumarampalli village of Vempalli mandal and Jogireddypalli of Chakrayapeta mandal of Y.S.R district of Andhra Pradesh through participatory approach. KVK scientists demonstrated the BMP’s viz., Sowing of only two seeds per hill under Ridge and furrow system; Adopted Integrated Nutrient Practices viz.

Economics of paddy relay sunhemp system was studied in comparison with economics of paddy-fallow system. Farmers of the Nacharam (V), Khammam (D), Telangana state are generally keeping the land fallow after harvesting kharif paddy due to water scarcity resulting in no income during rabi. As an alternative to the paddy-fallow system, farmers of the Nacharam (V), Khammam (D), Telangana state were educated by the scientists of KVK, Wyra under “National Innovations in Climate Resilient Agriculture (NICRA)” project to grow sunhemp as a relay crop after kharif paddy i.e., paddy-sunhemp system.

Nacharam one of the NICRA (National Innovations on Climate Resilient Agriculture) cluster village belonging to Khammam (D), Telangana State consists of 7 villages i.e., Nacharam, Colony Nacharam, Gangula Nacharam, Muniya Thanda, Bhadru Thanda, Rama Thanda, Onti gudisa. The major climate challenge is drought because of deficit rainfall observed in every year. The source of irrigation for cultivation of crops is through water streams and borewells.
