The content of unsaturated fatty acids did differ between males and females of the two species studied. However, these differences are few and can be explained by the timing of their breeding seasons. The fatty acid composition of the fats from both investigated octopus species permits their use as food with nutritional value, and the production of bioactive additives.

In summary, our study provides novel insights into the lipid composition and content of Pacific oysters cultured in Van Don, Quang Ninh. The results demonstrate the temporal variability in lipid classes and fatty acid composition throughout the year, with the highest lipid content observed during the pre-reproductive period. These findings could contribute to better understanding the nutritional value of Pacific oysters and inform future aquaculture practices.

This paper focuses on an autotrophic cultivation of Chlorella vulgaris, in low nitrogen-content media, using indoor photobioreactors. Nutritional factors, which controlled the Chlorella growth and the chemical composition of cells (i.e., proteins, carbohydrates, lipids), were studied. The moderate feeding of both N and P and/or their starvation in the photobioreactor were investigated in order to induce a high accumulation of lipids into Chorella cells.

A series of trehalose-based oligosaccharides were isolated from the cytoplasmic fraction of Mycobacterium smegmatis and purified by gel-filtration and paper chromatography and TLC. Their structures were determined by HPLC and GLC to determine sugar composition and ratios, MALDI-TOF MS to measure molecular mass, methylation analysis to determine linkages, 1H-NMR to obtain anomeric configurations of glycosidic linkages, and exoglycosidase digestions followed by TLC to determine sequences and anomeric configurations of the monosaccharides....

Lipid rafts are liquid-ordered membrane microdomains with a unique protein and lipid composition found on the plasma membrane of most, if not all, mammalian cells. A large number of signalling molecules are concentrated within rafts, which have been proposed to function as signalling centres capable of facilitating efficient and specific signal transduction. This review summarizes current knowledge regarding the composition, structure, and dynamic nature of lipid rafts, as well as a number of different signalling path- ways that are compartmentalized within these microdomains....

Vibrio choleraehemolysin (HlyA), a water-soluble protein with a native monomeric relative molecular mass of 65 000, forms transmembrane pentameric channels in target bio-membranes.TheHlyAbinds to lipid vesicles nonspecifically and without saturation; however, self-assembly is triggered specifically by cholesterol. Here we show that the HlyA partitioned quantitatively to amphiphilic media irrespective of their compositions, indicating that the toxin had an amphiphilic surface.

Depth of bilayer penetration and effects on lipid mobility conferred by themembrane-active peptidesmagainin, melit-tin, and a hydrophobic helical sequence KKA(LA)7KK (denoted KAL), were investigated by colorimetric and time-resolved fluorescence techniques in biomimetic phos-pholipid/poly(diacetylene)vesicles. The experiments dem-onstrated that the extent of bilayer permeation and peptide localization within the membrane was dependent upon the bilayer composition, and that distinct dynamic modifica-tions were induced by each peptide within the head-group environment of the phospholipids....

The membrane lipid composition of planctomycetes capable of the an-aerobic oxidation of ammonium (anammox), i.e. Candidatus‘Brocadia anammoxidans’ and Candidatus‘Kuenenia stuttgartiensis’, was shown to be composed mainly of so-called ladderane lipids. These lipids are com-prised of three to five linearly concatenated cyclobutane moieties withcis ring junctions, which occurred as fatty acids, fatty alcohols, alkyl glycerol monoethers, dialkyl glycerol diethers and mixed glycerol ether⁄esters. ...

We havemade a comprehensive and quantitative analysis of the lipid composition of caveolae from primary rat fat cells and compared the composition of plasma membrane inside and outside caveolae. We isolated caveolae from purified plasmamembranesusingultrasonication incarbonatebuffer to disrupt the membrane, or extraction with nonionic detergent, followed by density gradient ultracentrifugation. The carbonate-isolated caveolae fraction was further immunopurified using caveolin antibodies.

Surfactant-like membranes containing the 21-residue peptide KLLLL-KLLLLKLLLLKLLLLK (KL4 ), have been clinically tested as a therapeu-tic agent for respiratory distress syndrome in premature infants. The aims of this study were to investigate the interactions between the KL4 peptide and lipid bilayers, and the role of both the lipid composition and KL4 structure on the surface adsorption activity of KL4 -containing membranes.
