The accumulation of lipid droplets (LDs) in hepatocytes is the main pathogenesis in nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), which is also the key risk factor for the progression of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). LDs behaviors are demonstrated to be associated with HCC advancement, and are tightly regulated by a subset protein localized on the surface of LDs. However, the role of LDs-localized protein in HCC has been rarely investigated.

The more selective second-generation BTK inhibitors (BTKi) Acalabrutinib and Zanubrutinib and the first-generation BTKi Ibrutinib are highlighted by their clinical effectiveness in mantle cell lymphoma (MCL), however, similarities and differences of their biological and molecular effects on anti-survival of MCL cells induced by these BTKi with distinct binding selectivity against BTK remain largely unknown.

Caleosin/peroxygenases, CLO/PXG, (designated PF05042 in Pfam) are a group of genes/proteins with anomalous distributions in eukaryotic taxa. We have previously characterised CLO/PXGs in the Viridiplantae. The aim of this study was to investigate the evolution and functions of the CLO/PXGs in the Fungi and other non-plant clades and to elucidate the overall origin of this gene family.

Rhodotorula glutinis is recognized as a biotechnologically important oleaginous red yeast, which synthesizes numerous meritorious compounds with wide industrial usages. One of the most notable properties of R. glutinis is the formation of intracellular lipid droplets full of carotenoids.

Recent evidence implicates the formation of lipid droplets as a hallmark event during apoptotic cell death response. It is presently unknown whether MIR494, located at 14q32 which is deleted in renal cancers, reduces cell survival in renal cancer cells and if this process is accompanied by changes in the number of lipid droplets.

Neoplastic cells proliferate rapidly and obtain requisite building blocks by reprogramming metabolic pathways that favor growth. Previously, we observed that prostate cancer cells uptake and store lipids in the form of lipid droplets, providing building blocks for membrane synthesis, to facilitate proliferation and growth.

In obesity, increased dietary lipids are taken up and transported by the lymphatic systems into the circulatory system. Increased fat accumulation results in impairments in the lymph fluid and lymph node (LN) atrophy. LNs filter the lymph fluid for foreign antigens to induce and control immune responses, and the alteration of this function during obesity remains underexplored. Here, the changes within the microarchitecture of mesenteric LNs (mLNs) during high levels of lipid transport were investigated, and the role of stromal cells in mice fed a high-fat diet for 10 weeks was assessed.

Oleaginous microalgae are promising sources of energy-rich triacylglycerols (TAGs) for direct use for food, feed and industrial applications. Lobosphaera incisa is a fresh water unicellular alga, which in response to nutrient stress accumulates a high amount of TAGs with a high proportion of arachidonic acid (ARA).

The objective of this study was to explore the gross morphological and histolmorphometric observations in the mammary gland of Boer graded local goats in India. The present study was conducted in adult lactating and nonlactating (n =6 each) Boer local she-goats. The mammary gland in both the group was a compound tubulo-alveolar gland surrounded by a connective tissue capsule. The alveoli were the principal secretory unit lined by simple cuboidal epithelium. In lactating animals, well developed alveoli, filled with secretions and lipid droplets were observed.

Dissecting lipid accumulation of microalgae Nannochloropsis oculata using fluorescent image analysis
The presence of lipid droplets in the cells could be observed from the 20th day of culture. The size of lipid droplets was gradually increased after 60 days. Treatment of depleted nitrogen for 4 days resulted an increase in the accumulation of lipid. The intracellular lipid accumulation during phases of growth of the cell suspension under nitrogen-depleted conditions was also discussed.

The intracellular role of placental protein 17b (PP17b)/ TIP47has been controversial, because it is considered tobe a protein required for mannose 6-phosphate receptor trans-port from endosome totrans-Golgi as well as a neutral lipid droplet-associatedprotein.The similaritybetween theamino acid sequences of PP17 variants, adipophilin and perilipins, andbetween their gene structures indicate that PP17baswell as other alternatively spliced PP17 variants belong to the lipid storage droplet protein family, containing also some differentiation factors....

Prohibitin (PHB-1) is a highly conserved protein involved in mitochondrial biogenesis and function. It is secreted in lipid droplets from adipocytes and is present in the circulation. In adipose tissue it functions as a membrane receptor and can target binding partners to the mitochondria.

Lipid accumulation alters macrophage biology and contributes to lipid retention within the vessel wall. In this study, we investigated the role of adipophilin on triglyceride accumulation and lipid-droplet formation in THP-1-derived macrophages (THP-1 macrophages). In the presence of acetylated low-density lipoprotein, macrophages infected with an adeno-virus expressing human adipophilin showed a 31% increase in triglyceride content and a greater number of lipid droplets compared with control cells....

Adipophilin is a 50 kDa protein that belongs to the PAT family (perilipin, adipophilin, TIP47, S3-12 and OXPAT), which comprises proteins involved in the coating of lipid droplets. Little is known about the functional role of adipophilin in muscle. Using the C2C12 cell line as a model, we demon-strate that palmitic acid-treated cells highly express the adipophilin protein in a dose-dependent way.

The aim of the present study was to investigate in detail the molecular mecha-nisms by which free fatty acids induce liver toxicity in liver cells. HepG2 and Huh7 human liver cell lines were exposed to varying concentrations of stea-rate (18:0), oleate (18:1), or mixtures of the two fatty acids, and the effects on cell proliferation, lipid droplet accumulation and induction of endoplasmic reticulum stress and apoptosis were evaluated.
