  • Heat stress adversely affects pig growth and reproduction performance by reducing feed intake, weight gain, farrowing rate, and litter size. Heat tolerance is an important characteristic in pigs, allowing them to mitigate the negative effects of heat stress on their physiological activities.

  • The present study was conducted to evaluate the effect of sex and age on physico-chemical and organoleptic qualities of Rajasri chicken at three different ages i.e. 16th, 20th and 24thweeks of age. Day old chicks (n=144) were reared to the age of 16, 20 24 weeks of age under the deep litter system. Six male and six females were slaughtered at 16, 20 and 24 weeks of age in each trail of total four trails.

  • A study was conducted to know the ratio of giblets on live weight and carcass weight basis of various indigenous chicken breeds. The nutritional value of giblets was also assessed to use a source of nutrition in value added products. Birds of six weeks each of Cobb-400, Vanraja, Aseel, Kadaknath breed reared under deep litter system were sacrificed using halal slaughter procedure. Giblets were collected and processed as per standard procedure. Each and every measurement was taken using digital measurement twice for every reading. Proximate analysis was performed using ISO procedures.

  • An experiment was carried out to study the impact of Terminalia arjuna (Roxb.) leaf litter and hosted tasar silkworm excreta on quality of paddy and soil porosities cv. GNR 4 and laid out in nine treatments with Completely Randomized Design. The study revealed that the protein content of grain and nitrogen content of grain, straw recorded statistically higher with the application of 50% RDN through inorganic fertilizer + 50% RDN from arjuna hosted tasar silkworm excreta.

  • The present study was carried out for investigation of polymorphism of FecB and POU1F1 gene in Assam Hill goat. Blood samples pertaining to 80 randomly selected Assam Hill goats having kidding history of single as well as multiple births maintained at three field units viz., Batabari, Nahira and Tetelia under “AICRP on Goat Improvement” were utilized. DNA was extracted using modified phenol chloroform extraction procedure. The quantity and quality of extracted DNA were assessed using spectrophotometry and agarose gel electrophoresis.

  • This shows that adverse environmental conditions, mostly associated with a lower pH content of the soil under spruce stands, retard decomposition processes and individual litters appear to be more sensitive to this retardation than mixed litters.

  • The aim of the present study was to determine the effects of the litter chemistry of spruce (Picea orientalis), pine (Pinus sylvestris) and chestnut (Castanea sativa) grown in the Artvin region on their decomposition rates. Freshly fallen litters from these species were analysed for total carbon, nitrogen, lignin, cellulose and hemicellulose.

  • Plant litter decomposition is controlled by both biotic and abiotic factors. It has been widely hypothesized that litter quality and climatic and soil conditions regulate decomposition. The present study examined the decomposition of native forest tree litter on 2 aspects (the north and the south) and at 3 altitudes (top, middle, and bottom) on each aspect in Artvin province to determine the influence of litter quality, microclimate, and soil characteristics on the rate of decomposition.

  • Not only the aesthetically distasteful plastic litter, but also less conspicuous small plastic pellets and granules are a threat to marine biota. The latter are found in large quantities on beaches (Gregory, 1978, 1989; Shi- ber, 1979, 1982, 1987; Redford et al., 1997), and are the raw material for the manufacture of plastic products that end up in the marine environment through acci- dental spillage during transport and handling, not as litter or waste as other forms of plastics (Gregory, 1978; Shiber, 1979; Redford et al., 1997).
