Loamy soil

In this study, we amended the loamy soil in a ginger farm using bamboo biochars combined with organic fertiliser. We used the original and treated bamboo biochars at low and high application rates to evaluate mechanisms involved in N dynamics of both soil and plant using δ15N and gas exchange measurement.

Bags were treated with microorganisms using three methods of inoculation i.e. soil inoculation (single or mixed cultures); leaf inoculation (single culture), and soil and leaf inoculation (mixed inoculation).

A field experiment was conducted during Kharif season of 2015 on loamy sand soil to study the effect of phosphorus levels and thiourea on productivity, nutrient content and uptake of urdbean. Experiment consisted of four treatments of phosphorus levels (0, 20, 40 and 60 kg/ha) and five thiourea treatments (control, thiourea 500 ppm at branching, thiourea 500 ppm at branching and flowering, thiourea 1000 ppm at branching and thiourea 1000 ppm at branching and flowering) thereby making twenty treatment combinations tested in randomized block design with three replications.

Distribution of available micronutrients and their relationship with different soil properties was studied in one hundred soil samples collected from different locations of 25 villages representing the soils of Garhi Tehsil of Banswara district, Rajasthan. The soils were analysed for textural separates, physico-chemical properties and status of available micronutrients. Texture of soils varied from sandy clay loamy to clay loam. On the basis of pH and EC values, these soils were found neutral to moderately alkaline and non-saline in nature.

Geoinformatics is application of information technology for study and management of earth resources. The salt affected soils of Gohana were mapped and evaluated using visual interpretation of IRS-P6 satellite false colour composite (FCC) image with ground survey and laboratory analysis. A total of 72 soil samples across the study area were sampled based on the quality of groundwater used for irrigation at four depths (0-15, 15-30, 30-45 and 45-60 cm). Long-term irrigation with salt affected water results in soil quality decline.
