  • Fiber-Reinforced Polymer (FRP) in the form of thin-walled plate structures are widely used in different engineering applications due to their outstanding features such as: high strength-to-weight ratio, excellent fatigue and corrosion resistance, etc. This study focuses on the local buckling resistance of pultruded FRP columns by experimental work. The test data were compared to current theoretical and numerical predictions.

  • This paper presents a comprehensive computational investigation into the nonlinear elastic buckling response of perfect and imperfect thin cantilever cylinders under global transverse shear. A complete range of practical lengths was investigated, from short cylinders which fail by shear buckling to very long ones which exhibit local meridional compression buckling with significant prior cross-section ovalisation.

  • The computational model shows that plastic buckling of cells with progressive plasticity of the contact area is the key local failure mechanism. As expected, due to the plastic buckling of the unit cells, thermal degradations of the tested metallic foams follow similar trends as does the yield stress of their bulk metals.

  • The changes of stacking sequences have the effect on the development of translaminar, interlaminar and intralaminar cracks likewise. The comparison of experimental failure analysis and finite element method showed that the PFA model predicts the approximate localization of the failures.

  • This article presents a semi-analytical finite strip method based on Marguerre’s shallow shell theory and Kirchhoff’s assumption. The formulated finite strip is used to study the buckling behavior of thin-walled circular hollow sections (CHS) subjected to uniform bending. The shallow finite strip program of the present study is compared to the plate strip implemented in CUFSM4.05 program for demonstrating the accuracy and better convergence of the former.

  • The paper presents a new approach to the conventional averaging in which the role of boundary values is considered in a more detailed way. It results in a new weighted local averaging operator (WLAO) taking into account the particular role of boundary values. A remarkable feature of WLAO is that this operator contains a parameter of boundary regulation p and depends on a local value h of the integration domain. By varying these two parameters one can regulate the obtained approximate solutions in order to get more accurate ones.

  • Tài liệu tham khảo giáo trình nhôm trong thiết kế xây dựng bằng tiếng anh - Chương 7 Plate elements in compression 7.1 GENERAL DESCRIPTION 7.1.1 Local buckling In aluminium design it is often economic to employ wide thin sections, so as to obtain optimum section properties for a minimum weight of metal. The extrusion process makes this possible. The limit to which a designer may thus go in spreading out the material depends on local buckling of the individual plate elements comprising the section. If the section is made too wide and thin, premature failure will occur with local buckles...
