Spikelet sterility studies on induced mutant populations of cluster bean [Cyamopsis tetragonoloba (L.) Taub.]

Mutation breeding is one of the best ways to induce genetic variability within a crop species in a short period of time. It is equally a potentially powerful tool for cluster bean as other crops for genetic enrichment. The gamma radiation induced 190 M4 mutant lines of cluster bean [Cyamopsis tetragonoloba (L.) Taub.] obtained from Centre for Biotechnological Research (CBR), Dept. of BCI, College of Horticulture, Bengaluru and which were used for the field experiment on spikelet sterility during kharif 2017 (June - November) at College of Horticulture, Mysore.

Qualitative and quantitative characterization of snake gourd (Trichosanthes anguina L.) mutant lines

Advanced mutant lines have been selected from M4 generation and its qualitative and quantitative characters were evaluated in spring-summer season at Bidhan Chandra Krishi Viswavidyalaya, West Bengal, during 2016. Different qualitative characters of mutant lines have been recorded and observed that the some characters changed from that of the parental control. Analysis of variance due to treatments was significant for all the characters proved higher variability among the mutant lines.

Correlation studies in the induced mutant population of cluster bean [Cyamopsis tetragonoloba (l.) Taub.]

Variability studies provide information on the extent of improvement possible in different characters, but they do not throw light on the extent and nature of relationship existing between yield and various contributory characters. Character association or correlation is a measure of the degree of association between two characters. A knowledge regarding the association of various characters among themselves and with economic characters is necessary for making indirect selection for improvement of economic characters.
