Mango growers

Mango (Mangifera indica L.) occupies a pre-eminent place amongst the sub-tropical fruits grown in Jammu region and is extensively grown crop in this region. The horticulture crops are perishable in nature and they require special attention in their harvesting, handling, packaging, storage and processing operations, therefore post-harvest management practices of a crop is done to prolong the storage life, freshness and an attractive appearance.

Mango is designated as “King” of fruits due to its wide adaptability, high nutritive value, richness in variety, delicious taste, pleasant flavour and attractive appearance. Fruits are rich in vitamin A and C Application of agro-chemicals alters the behaviour of trees for the economic benefit of the fruit growers. In this regard an experiment was conducted at Agriculture Research Station, Banswara district of Rajasthan to find out the response of different agro-chemicals.

Integrated Pest Management technologies in mango from flowering to harvesting were demonstrated by Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Tumkur through Frontline Demonstrations (FLDs) in the selected mango growers orchards from 2016-17 to 2018-19.

The mango fruit fly, Bactrocera dorsalis (Hendel) (Diptera: Tephritidae) is a destructive polyphagous pest, posing threat to mango growers in Papparampakkam village of Tiruvallur District in Tamil Nadu. Population dynamics of fruit fly and yield were recorded in Papparampakkam village of Tiruvallur district during 2014-15. The results showed that trap catches was high, 839.1 fruit flies per trap during July 2014, followed by August, 2014 (563.8 fruit flies /trap). The fruit fly population was low during January, 2015 to April, 2015.
