Ebook "Sabkha ecosystems - Volume IV: Cash crop halophyte and biodiversity conservation" contains a number of articles dealing with halophyte ecology, bio-geography, ecophysiology, hyper-saline soils, biofuels, biosaline agriculture, biosaline landscaping, climate change mitigation, and biodiversity. It also contains the communication of innovative ideas, such as the research into floating mangroves, seagrass terraces, as well as a World Halophyte Garden containing all known salt-tolerant plant species.

The Pteriomorphia is a subclass of Bivalvia, phylum Mollusca that lives in saltwater. The species in this subclass have a soft body, with a protective and supportive limestone shell. The species belonging to the subclass Pteriomorphia quite varied in morphology and ecological characteristics. Many species with high nutrition are used as valuable foods.

Plastic is one of the most handy materials that man has ever invented. With its cheap, durable, and convenient properties, plastic is used in almost all areas of life. Along with economic development, plastic waste is becoming a big challenge for the community and society, significantly affecting the environment, public health and marine ecosystems, including mangrove forests.

In order to understand the variation of total mercury (THg) in a tropical mangrove lagoon ecosystem. THg concentration was seasonally analysed in the biota and surface sediments from Setiu lagoon, Terengganu, Malaysia. THg in sediments showed spatially the similar trend with higher concentrations in dry season compared to the rainy season, whereas most of the biota was found the opposite trend between seasons.

Ebook "Mangrove ecosystems of Asia: Status, challenges and management strategies" provides an up-to-date account of mangrove forests from Asia, together with restoration techniques, and the management requirements of these ecosystems to ensure their sustainability and conservation. All aspects of mangroves and their conservation are critically re-examined. The book is divided into three sections presenting the distribution and status of mangrove ecosystems in Asia, the challenges they are facing, their issues and opportunities, and the management strategies for their conservation.

This paper explored the current situation of livelihood and exploitation of mangrove ecosystem resources, the difficulties in natural resource management and exploitation, the impacts of natural resource exploitation and solutions to protect the mangrove ecosystem in the coastal commune of Thanh Phu. The study employed mixed research methods including document and thematic analysis, the sustainable livelihood framework approach by DFID, questionnaire and SWOT.

The present study aims to determine the role of the carbon source from mangroves to provide the organic matter in intertidal sediments by the stable isotopes approach. The present results suggested that mangroves are important in accumulating organic carbon and fine–grained sediments in the Tien Yen Bay, contributing important values to climate change mitigation and maintaining biodiversity in this area.

Mangrove is one of the highly productive ecosystems and contains diverse plants and microbial communities. Bacterial endophytes from mangroves are considered as a prolific source of biological molecules with important functions in the protection of mangrove plants against herbivores, insects as well as pathogens.

Mangroves are a diverse and rich ecosystem, in which many animals are associated, including benthos. Species composition and occurrence of these animals are driven by the mangroves and tidal conditions. To examine how the benthic animal is distributed in mangrove habitats from northern Vietnam, two surveys in 2019 were conducted in Tien Hai Wetland Nature Reserve, which resulted in a total of 89 species, belonging to 56 genera and 35 families of zoobenthos.

Mangrove forests are saline or brackish wetland environments, in which substrateusually anoxic due to waterlogging. This unique condition induces a high ability of this ecosystem in fixing and storing CO2, one of the greenhouse gases that contribute to global warming.

Mangrove forests are intertidal wetlands and found along tropical, subtropical, and warm-temperate coastlines. They also offer valuable ecosystem services. However, mangrove forests are especially vulnerable as typhoons frequently hit during the monsoon season and under driving human pressures.

The research article "Polyester production by halophilic and halotolerant bacterial strains obtained from mangrove soil samples located in Northern Vietnam" reports halophilic and halotolerant bacteria isolated from mangrove forests located in Northern Vietnam. Several of these bacteria were able to synthesize polyhydroxyalkanoates (PHAs). PHAs are polyesters stored by microorganisms under the presence of considerable amounts of a carbon source and deficiency of other essential nutrient such as nitrogen or phosphorous.

Mangrove ecosystems provide a wide range of both direct and indirect use values to coastal communities in developing countries. The full value of mangrove products and services is not yet recognized and is therefore often ignored in development planning. As a result, decisions are made which favour commercial developments over mangrove conservation. The direct use value for U Minh Ha mangrove forest is not well understood but is considered to be high and important to about 80% of the local people in the area.

Mangroves have adapted to intertidal zones - the interface between terrestrial and marine ecosystems. Various studies have shown adaptive evolution in mangroves at physiological, ecological, and genomic levels. However, these studies paid little attention to gene regulation of salt adaptation by transcriptome profiles.
