However, this rise in interest has not been accompanied by a corresponding increase in completion rates. This article examines the factors that influence Mexican learners’ retention rates and learner engagement to determine the extent to which a student´s profile can predict his or her ability to engage with and complete an xMOOC on energy and sustainability.

  • Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) has been playing an important role in the latest e-learning initiative and has obtained a widespread popularity in many universities. However, the low course completion rates of students have become an outstanding issue that should not be neglected. Based on the Expectation-Confirmation Model (ECM), this study examines the effects of students’ perceived usefulness, confirmation and satisfaction on MOOC continuance intention. Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) was used to validate the proposed model and hypotheses.

  • This paper proposes a new service system that explains the process of social innovation (SI) in education in a developing country. We selected 17 Ashoka cases in the field of education in Bangladesh and analyzed them thematically. Results show that targets for SI (educational opportunities, employment opportunities, and additional educational resources) are related to the first phase of SI where social entrepreneurs foster innovative ideas that effectively solve social problems.

  • This paper introduces a massive open online course (MOOC) on educational technology, and studies the factors that may influence learners’ participation and performance in the MOOC. Students’ learning records captured in the course management system and students’ feedback collected from a questionnaire survey are explored. Regression analysis is adopted to examine the correlation among perceived learning experience, learning activities and learning outcomes; data mining is applied to optimize the correlation models.

  • The main objective of this research was to explore current borrowers’ financial education in microfinance and determine the possibilities of adopting massive open online courses (MOOCs) for such individuals. We adopted a semi-structured interview research strategy. A total of 25 employees and borrowers in BRAC’s (Bangladesh Rehabilitation Assistance Committee and then Bangladesh Rural Advancement Committee, currently, BRAC does not represent an acronym) microfinance program were interviewed and the data were analyzed qualitatively.

  • The diffusion of Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) is significantly changing the way people learn and update their knowledge and competencies.
