It proposes new practices that extend music compositional tools into embracing spatial techniques employed by sound design. My research encompasses both the conceptual development (ie spatial techniques in creating narratives) and the practical issues relating to the production and technology needed for such works.

  • With process and materiality as subject and content, this project works through the changing and intertextual nature of contemporaneous meaning making under late-capitalism. The project makes use of common wooden materials such as pine, MDF, and plywood to support an object- and installation-based practice. Through the social relations of materiality and visibility of process, the physical outcomes promote the multiplicities of our intertextual contemporaneity while maintaining a physical grounding in the reality of everyday lived experiences.

  • This research project explores the negative environmental impacts of anthropogenic debris by investigating these found materials within the medium of contemporary jewellery objects. Contemporary jewellery objects are a powerful artistic medium. We can wear jewellery on our bodies and carry it with us. Jewellery can sit on or through the body, and at the same time extend beyond our bodies. Jewellery objects can resonate their own space, to be watched, observed publicly or privately, inviting the wearer or voyeur to think, to enquire, to remember and to investigate.

  • This project examines how the moving image can be used as a vehicle of memory, to express what is lost, what is gained and what changes occur in relation to personal family migratory history—a messy and ambiguous process. This practice-led research project investigates video work, using filmed materials and objects, to focus attention on the non-linear aspect of time as it is subjected to individual and collective memories. The outcomes highlight the sometimes disconnecting and unpredictable experiences of migration, storytelling, and memory.

  • Objects, when understood as retrieval cues for memories, may elicit psychological benefits and connections to an individual's past. They are integral to our life story and help to form our individual sense of identity and ability to establish a sound psychological foundation. Transitional objects are an important related category of objects that have been identified in this research. The concept and use of transitional objects and their related phenomena during infancy is well researched, whereas the impact and importance beyond infancy is less established.

  • Within the urban landscape, the tempo of destruction and redevelopment of our built environment reveals a palimpsest of change. The abandonment of these sites could go unnoticed, often a fleeting moment before destruction, with the next structure then re-cloaking the land. This research project locates itself spatially and conceptually within this pause or transitional state of select sites. It utilises this brief period of time to consider how these sites can offer poetic information and new readings as creative practice, despite their impending obsolescence.

There is a rich history here that began with the awakening of artists and institutions in the 1960s to the importance of the conditions of site (Kraus 1977).
