Ebook "Generic and specific roles of saccharides at cell and bacteria surfaces: Revealed by specular and off-specular X-ray and neutron scattering" has led to the development of several new methods for extracting information on the structure and mechanics of saccharide-rendered biomembranes from the measured scattering signals. In fact, more is now known about the influence of the saccharide structure.

Quantitative constraints on the timing and temperatures associated with Quaternary fault slip inform earthquake mechanics and seismic hazard analyses. Optically stimulated luminesce (OSL) and thermoluminescence (TL) are tools that can provide these constraints from fault gouge and localized slip surfaces.

Spectral entropy is a basic measure of information available in the material interior about surface loads, or a measure of disorder introduced into elastic medium by the deformation. An exact analytical entropy function is derived for an isotropic plane solid under Gauss-distributed and point loads.

Cyclic voltammetry (CV) was performed on tamoxifen (tam) using different electrodes and in various acidic electrolytes containing 10% v v−1 methanol (MeOH). Tam oxidation was found to be most favorable using 0.1 mol L−1 H2SO4. To investigate the mechanism, we performed chronoamperometry, CV at different scan rates, differential pulse anodic voltammetry (DPAV), and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy on tam-covered glassy carbon electrodes (GCEs). The electrode area, diffusion coefficient, and surface concentration (Γ) of tam were calculated to be 0.062 cm2, 3.65 × 10−6 cm2 s−1 , and 3.

Polymer blending as an efficient method for blending at least two polymers is usually used to create new materials with desirable physical properties. This article focuses on the biodegradability evaluation of polypropylene (PP) fibers modified with disposable recycled poly(lactic acid) (r-PLA) plastic flakes. Biodegradable modified PP fibers containing 30% r-PLA were prepared by melt spinning process and evaluated with different methods of biodegradation assays.

The measurement methods using structured light have the advantage of being fast, accurate, and noncontact with the surface of the object. However, these methods have reached its limitation when measuring mechanical details with high surface gloss, due to the unpredictable reflection of incident rays after reaching to object’s surface that, consequently, leads to the simultaneous appearance of several regions with different brightness.

Currently, with the disappearance of fossil energy sources, finding new alternative energy sources is very necessary such as: solar energy, wind energy, tidal energy, flow energy, ... However, these energy sources require high investment capital, large capacity, and bulky size. In circuits requiring small power sources (below 12V), it is not applicable, or only used through intermediate devices such as transformers, current transformers; Therefore, the application of energy from mechanical vibration has been proposed as an optimal measure compared to the above methods..

A manipulation system for unmanned surface vessels (USVs) as well as other unmanned vehicles and autonomous vehicles are commonly built up by three vital components which are guidance system, navigation system and control system, regardless of the mechanical aspects. In which, the navigation system will first use sensors to measure and estimate parameters, then feedback to the guidance system and the control system as input data. Based on those data and assignments from user, the guidance system calculates and outputs reference data for the control system.

This study was conducted to evaluate the effect of ultrasound application on the surface microhardness (VHN) and diametral tensile strength (DTS) of three high viscous glass-ionomer restorative materials (HVGIRMs). For each test (VHN and DTS), a total of 180 specimens were prepared from three HVGIRMs (Ketac-Molar Aplicap, Fuji IX GP Fast, and ChemFil Rock). Specimens of each material (n = 60) were further subdivided into three subgroups (n = 20) according to the setting modality whether ultrasound (20 or 40 s) was applied during setting or not (control).
