Several investigations contributed to developing the Electrical Resistivity Spectroscopy equipment used to evaluate meat standards. In the prior research, a method for effectively calculating the power resistance spectra of pork meat was devised. This method was successfully implemented. Electrodes fabricated from medical knitting needles and the term means syringes were used in this study to measure the energy-dispersive spectra of flesh.

Bacterial infections in medical devices and drug resistance of bacteria can cause chaos in the world due to loss of lives in addition to the cost of device revisions, quarantine, disinfection of infected areas, and patient treatment. Antibacterial coatings of essential oils on medical devices can prevent bacterial attachment and reduce costs. Linalool is an antibacterial constituent of essential oils.

Electrospinning is now being widely used as a potential tool for tissue engineering to manufacturing tissue grafts, wound dressings, medical fabrics, and drug delivery systems. Regarding biomaterials, polyurethane (PU) and polycaprolactone (PCL) and their combination are prospective candidates for the fabrication of electrospun membranes used in tissue engineering due to their suitable biocompatibility, biodegradability, and mechanical properties. Thus, this study investigates how to manipulate the electrospinning process of PU/PCL to obtain nanofibers with desired features.

Selective laser sintering (SLS) is known as a cutting-edge technique to manufacture complex geometry products. Among various kinds of materials, Ti-6Al-4V is one of the most popular materials for the SLS process. The as-built Ti-6Al-4V products were widely applied in many applications such as aerospace, automobile, and especially in medical and implant parts.

Program Director Michele Cohen maintains “consulting a conservator in the process of designing a public sculpture is a precautionary measure which can only result in a more durable finished product. We can’t foresee all problems, but we can certainly minimize them by thoroughly investigating materials and fabrication methods.” Preserving the integrity of the artwork should be the highest priority during the design process. In the United States, federal and state laws address issues of preservation and artists’ and moral rights.

The nano-scale spatial organization of metallic and other inorganic materi-als into 1D objects is a key task in nanotechnology. Nano-scale fibers and tubes are very useful templates for such organization because of their inherent 1D organization. Fibrillar biological molecules and biomolecular assemblies are excellent physical supports on which to organize the inor-ganic material.

Nanotips have been in increasing demand over the last two decades, owing to their crucial role in the main nanotechnology instruments, like scanning probe microscopes and scanning electron and transmission microscopes. Well-defined ultrasharp tips have also attracted a growing interest in molecular electronics, as they are needed for fabrication and characterization of molecular structures. In this chapter we present several methods that have been explored so far for fabricating such ultrasharp tips, with an emphasis on the most recent technique.

Despite advances in pharmacology, not all patients respond favourably to drugs. A proportion of patients under therapy don't benefit from their treatment or experience an adverse reaction to the medication. However, progress in the understanding of disease mechanisms and drug actions are opening opportunities to match therapies to patient populations, and thus pave the way towards a more personalised medicine.

The human body is composed of structures organized in a hierarchical fashion: from biomolecules assembled into polymers, to multimeric assemblies such as cellular organelles, to individual cells, to tissues, to organ systems working together in health and disease- each dominated by a characteristic length scale. Decades of science and engineering are now converging to provide tools that enable the orderly manipulation of biological systems at previously inaccessible, though critically important, length scales (...

This book consists of a collection of review chapters that summarize the recent progress in the areas of metal and semiconductor nanosized crystals (nanocrystals). The interest in the optical properties of nanoparticles dates back to Faraday’s experiments on nanoscale gold. In these experiments, Faraday noticed the remarkable dependence of the color of gold particles on their size. The size dependence of the optical spectra of semiconductor nanocrystals was first discovered much later (in the 1980s) by Ekimov and coworkers in experiments on semiconductor-doped glasses.
