  • Resistance against insect pests is a crucial trait for the stability and sustainability of pigeonpea production. A field trail was conducted to quantify relative tolerance and sensitivity in9 new long duration pigeonpea genotypes including local control against pod fly during Kharif2017-18 at the Entomological Research Farm, Institute of Agricultural Sciences, Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi. In general, it was observed that none of the genotypes were found completely resistant to pests although these originated as least susceptible, moderately susceptible and highly susceptible.

  • Twenty nine long duration pigeonpea genotypes were screened for their reaction against pod fly during Kharif 2014-15 at the Agricultural Research Farm, Institute of Agricultural Sciences, Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi. The first incidence of pod fly was observed in the 4th standard week in all genotypes except IVT-509, AVT-607 and AVT-605 and the population persisted up to 12th standard week in all the genotypes.

  • A field experiment was conducted at Agricultural Research Station, Badnapur (Vasantrao Naik Marathwada Krishi Vidyapeeth (VNMKV), Parbhani), India during Kharif season of 2015-2016. A total of 20 pigeonpea genotypes were screened for their response against Melanagromyza obtusa Malloch infestation. The present study revealed that the first incidence of M. obtusa maggots and pupae was observed in the 44th standard meteorological week (39.87 maggots and 10.33 pupae per 100 pods) and attained its peak on 03rd standard meteorological week with 120.78 maggots and 55.
