  • NiTi based shape memory alloys (SMAs) are renowned not only for good shape memory characteristics, mechanical properties and corrosion resistance but also for high biocompatibility. To have the great potential for the application of SMAs at high temperatures, researchers have been attempting to increase the transformation temperatures of SMAs by adding elements such as Hf, Zr, Cu and Nb into the NiTi based alloys.

  • Mn-Ga-based alloy system has exhibited hard magnetic properties, although this alloy system contains no rare earth elements. However, magnetic parameters of Mn-Ga alloys have not yet been comparable to those of rare earth magnets such as Nd-Fe-B, Sm-Co, etc. Therefore, enhancement of the magnetic properties of the Mn-Ga-based alloys has interestingly been researched by scientists in the world.

  • Polymer blending as an efficient method for blending at least two polymers is usually used to create new materials with desirable physical properties. This article focuses on the biodegradability evaluation of polypropylene (PP) fibers modified with disposable recycled poly(lactic acid) (r-PLA) plastic flakes. Biodegradable modified PP fibers containing 30% r-PLA were prepared by melt spinning process and evaluated with different methods of biodegradation assays.

  • In this paper, we present the effects of subtituting elements of M (Ti, Si and Nb) and annealing temperatures on the structure and magnetic properties of Co79-xZr18+x-yMyB3 alloy ribbons (x = 0 - 2, y = 0 - 4). Hard magnetic properties of the alloy ribbons can be strengthened so significantly as a coercivity of Hc > 4 kOe and maximum energy product of (BH)max > 3.5 MGOe with an appropriate concentration of Ti, Si or Nb and annealing process.

  • In this paper, we present the results of studying magnetic properties and magnetocaloric effect of Fe90-xPrxZr10 (x = 1, 2 and 3) rapidly quenched alloys. The alloy ribbons with thickness of about 15 µm were prepared by melt-spinning method on a single roller system. X-ray diffraction patterns of the ribbons manifest their almost amorphous structure. Thermomagnetization measurements show that the Curie temperature of the alloys can be controlled to be near room temperature by changing concentration of Pr (x).
