  • The melting points of the complexes were >350oC, indicating high thermal stability. Cu-Zn-containing complex showed the least binding energy against the three proteins. The bioactivity scores of the complexes were between -0.50 and 0.0. Against A549 Cu-Zn, Co-Zn and Fe-Zn containing complexes showed potential activity. Against MCF-7, Fe-Cu containing complex had IC50 of 53.5 whereas Co-Zn containing complex was active against HepG2. Three complexes were active against S. aureus in the tested range.

  • Ebook "Polymer synthesis: Theory and practice - Fundamentals, methods, experiments" contains numerous changes: In recent years, so-called functional polymers which have special electrical, electronic, optical and biological properties, have gained more and more in interest. This textbook was therefore supplemented by recipes which describe the synthesis of these materials in a new chapter "Functional polymers". Together with new experiments in chapter 3, 4 and 5 the book now contains more than 120 recipes that describe a wide range of macromolecules.

  • The coexistence of the transverse and fast sounds of liquid metals in the terahertz range near the melting point is explained. These sound modes are phonon polaritons arisen from the interaction between the transverse collective ionic oscillations, known as phonons, and the electromagnetic wave radiated by the ions in vibration at high enough frequencies, for instance, in liquid Zn, Cu, and Fe.

  • This work introduces a new additive named 4,4’-trimethylenedipiperidine for the practical and ecofriendly preparation of ethyl 5-amino-7-(4-phenyl)-4,7-dihydro-[1,2,4]triazolo[1,5-a]pyrimidine-6-carboxylate derivatives. This chemical is commercially available and easy to handle. It also possesses a low melting point and a broad liquid range temperature, high thermal stability, and good solubility in water. Based on green chemistry principles, the reaction was performed in a) a mixture of green solvents i.e.

  • Blends of polyphenylene oxide (PPO) and acrylonitrile butadiene styrene (ABS) were prepared by melt-mixing method. Flammability of these blends was studied by using UL-94 (plastics flammability standard) and LOI (limited oxygen index) tests. The results showed the role of PPO as flame retardant in the blends which can inhibit the burning process. All blends of PPO and ABS were graded as V-1 and LOI values were higher than 21. As a physical mixture, tensile strength of PPO/ABS blends maintained values between the tensile of neat ABS and PPO.

  • Different models contained graphene layer are studied via molecular dynamics simulation. Models are heated up from 50K to 8000K via Tersoff and Lennard-Jones potentials to have an entire picture about the evolution of graphene layer in the models upon heating. Various thermodynamic quantities, structural characteristics, and the occurrence of liquidlike atoms are studied, such as, the total energy per atom, the heat capacity per atom, the radial distribution functions, and the appearance of liquid atoms upon heating. The phase transition exhibits the first order.

  • This work pointed out the preparation of a magnetic glass–ceramic in the system Fe2O3–ZnO–CaO–SiO2. The base composition was designed to crystallize about 60% magnetite. The influence of adding TiO2, Na2O and P2O5 separately or as mixtures was studied. The DTA of the glasses revealed a decrease in the thermal effects by adding P2O5, TiO2 and Na2O in an increasing order. The X-ray diffraction patterns showed the presence of nanometric magnetite crystals in a glassy matrix after cooling from the melting temperature.

  • This paper reports on the synthesis and characterisation of Dy2 O3 -doped magnesium borate (MB) glasses containing different modifiers, lithium, calcium, and sodium oxides. Glasses composed of (70-z)B2 O3 -20Li2 O; CaO; Na2 O-10MgO-zDy2 O3 (where 0.05≤z≤0.7 mol%) were prepared using the melt-quenching method. X-ray diffraction (XRD) pattern of the as-quenched samples verified their amorphous character. Differential thermal analysis (DTA) confirmed excellent glass-forming ability and thermal stability in the range of 0.60-0.67 and 0.18- 0.82, respectively.

  • High strength concrete has been used in situations where it may be exposed to elevated temperatures. Numerous authors have shown the significant contribution of polypropylene fibre to the spalling resistance of high strength concrete. This investigation develops some important data on the mechanical properties and microstructure of high strength concrete incorporating polypropylene fibre exposed to elevated temperature up to 200 -C.

  • An extensive investigation of photon interaction properties has been made for ZnxTe100-x alloys (where x ¼ 5, 20, 30, 40, 50) to explore its possible use in sensing and shielding gamma radiations. The results show better and stable response of ZnTe alloys for various photon interaction properties over the wide energy range, with an additional benefit of ease in fabrication due to lower melting points of Zn and Te. Mass attenuation coefficient values show strong dependence on photon energy as well as composition.

  • Melting parameter modeling shows the Nghia Dan melts generated from about 3 - 4% partial melting of a combined garnet- spinel- lherzolite source between a pressure range of 20 to 25 Kb (about 75 km deep). The parameters are consistent with the low SiO2 and high trace element, including the rare earth, contents in the Nghia Dan basalts. High FeO*, TiO2, CaO and Sr may also be a result of interaction with mafic components in the lithospheric mantle by the mantle-derived melts on the way to the surface.

  • The size dependent melting is presented. As the size of the nanoparticles increases, the variation of the melting point becomes more monotonic and the temperature range of bistability shifts to higher temperatures. In large nanoparticles, the proportion of interior atoms increases and the average potential energy per atom converges to the bulk or thin films.

  • As a country which contains significant concentrations of population in fragile mountain eco- systems, expanding arid zones, various regions which are subject to periodic flooding, increasing deforestation and environmental degradation and high levels of poverty, Bolivia is particularly vulnerable to climate change. Its damaging impact can be seen in a range of phenomena such as increasingly severe and frequent flooding and landslides and the accelerated melting of tropical glaciers.

This produced more economical engines with earlier four-cylinder designs rated at 40 horsepower (30 kW) and six-cylinder designs rated as low as 80 horsepower (60 kW), compared with the large volume V-8 American engines with power ratings in the range from 250 to 350 hp, some even over 400hp.
