Mental health literacy (MHL) is essential for high school students to promote the quality of their mental health as well as help people in need. In Vietnam, studies about MHL in high school students are limited, and results often report a moderate level of MHL. The aim of this study was to report the MHL status of high school students in Ho Chi Minh City.

The Cognitive Behavioral Therapy Skills Intervention (or CBTSI) aims to build mental health literacy and knowledge, allowing youth to build resilience and improve mental health broadly. In Ontario, Canada, youth voice is scant and European studies have largely reported on youth factors supporting stigma reduction, help-seeking intentions and overall satisfaction with a given intervention.

Asian countries should apply the YMHFA from a cultural and professional viewpoint to support the students and young adults in identifying mental needs, understanding their mental status, and receiving supports from professionals or other self-help activities. This review gives solid evidence, an adapted framework, and recommendation for implementing the YMHFA in Vietnamese education systems.

Although mental health literacy has been widely studied in adults, there are still relatively few studies on adolescent populations. In Sri Lanka, adolescents account for about one fifth of the population. Current evidence shows that most mental health problems diagnosed in adulthood begin in adolescence.

The role and demands of studying nursing and medicine involve specific stressors that may contribute to an increased risk for mental health problems. Stigma is a barrier to help-seeking for mental health problems in nursing and medical students, making these students vulnerable to negative outcomes including higher failure rates and discontinuation of study.

In the last few decades there has been a growing criticism of the mental health and social care services available to users, this includes those from minority ethnic and refugee groups in the UK. This has resulted in the rise of user groups and forums to put forward their agenda’s and challenge the very structure and provision available.

In order to establish how important service user involvement is in good quality mental health and social care services it is necessary to explore the emergence and reasons for such user involvement. Barnes and Bowl (2001), Pilgrim and Rodgers (1999) and Campbell (1999), site that the user movement emerged in response to the emergence of the political right and consumerist ideology in 1980’s.

The World Health Organization recognises the quality of the early years as a key social determinant of health17. There are sound theoretical and empirical reasons for focusing mental health promotion interventions on young children to prevent a range of problems in later life18 including mental health problems, obesity, criminality, family violence, poor literacy, unemployment and welfare dependency. Prevention and early intervention is also less expensive and more effective than treatment19.

Definitions of “program” may vary. Generally, a program constitutes some set of activities with a defined objective, such as an employment training program, a tutoring or mentoring program, a sports program, or a literacy development program for youth. In some nonprofits, there may be one supervisor per program, while in others, a supervisor will oversee more than one program. If an organization has more than one group providing the same service, managers can use a common measurement approach for both.

Medical rehabilitation is underfunded and short-staffed, and access to services is subject to substantial regional disparities. Long-term care is provided by both the health and the social sectors. Local governments are responsible for providing social care, which takes the form of cash and in-kind benefits provided mostly to impoverished individuals and those with disabilities. Palliative care is still in its infancy. The importance of informal carers, who in some cases are eligible for financial assistance, has been recognized.

Poor mental health in childhood is strongly linked to poor men- tal health later in life and has been shown to have a serious impact on life chances (Richard and Abbott, 2009). Mental health prob- lems may impact on human capital accumulation by reducing both the amount of schooling and the productivity level, which may in turn have lifelong consequences for employment, income and other outcomes (Eisenberg, Golberstein, and Hunt, 2009).

The bottom line is that mental illnesses occur with chronic mental conditions in many patients, causing significant role impairment, work loss and work cutback. They also worsen prognosis for heart disease, stroke, diabetes, HIV/AIDS, cancer and other chronic illnesses. Many factors point to reasons that mental illnesses are not adequately addressed in this context. Consumer, provider and system factors all contribute to poor quality of care. Consumers and family members may not recognize or correctly identify symptoms or may be reluctant to seek care.

We anticipate that this update will continue to raise awareness among clinicians and policymakers alike that low health literacy has a substantial impact on the use of health care services and health outcomes; it also hints at the role of health literacy in disparities in utilization or outcomes among groups defined by various sociodemographic characteristics. However, little remains known about the direct effect of lower health literacy on the costs of health care. Addressing the burden of low health literacy that we have identified warrants the attention of many stakeholders.

Overall, the strength of evidence for specific design features in these interventions was low or insufficient. This is attributable, in large part, to differences in the types of interventions and, subsequently, in the mix of results. Looking closely within categories of design features, however, the following specific design features seemed to improve comprehension for low-health-literacy populations in one or a few studies: (1) presenting essential information by itself (i.e.
