Mentor teaching

This study investigated student teachers’ teaching self-efficacy level and factors that predict it (using five-factor mentoring model). Two hundred and ten third and fourth-year student teachers (N=100/N=110; 93.8% females) were involved in the study and asked to complete a self-report questionnaire.

In this study 30 students of second year M.B.B.S students of Malla Reddy Medical College for Women were selected randomly in the subject of microbiology for mentor teaching. Institutional Ethical Clearance was obtained. Mentor teaching was done three times in a week for a period of 5 months. The topic was explained to them in detail. Before teaching the topic a pre-test questionnaire was given.

The results of research revealed that 1) aspect of research management of faculty: proceding and experts‟ consideration encourage the faculty members more in doing research. However, there is still lack of research mentors and consultant in transfering research knowledge, advicing, and enhancing researchers‟ ability; 2) aspect of researcher: researchers have less amount of intention and commitment because of work load (teaching) which is not conducive to research and doing research is stressful and overtired.

The program involves college mentors creating and implementing science lessons in collaboration with the classroom teacher. Focusing on the challenge of understanding circuit design, a technology rich module is employed to improve learning and motivation of the students. The students’ conceptual understanding as well as interest in circuits was increased, the college mentors earned valuable teaching and mentoring experience and the teacher enjoyed more oneon-one time as well as assistance with students.
