Characteristics of merging operators, including hierarchical merging operators, of symbolic impossibility distributions (SIDs for short) from the postulate point of view will be shown in the paper.

This version of Gamma was implemented on top of an existing multi- computer consisting of 20 VAX 11/750 processors [DEWI84b]. In the period of 1986-1988, the prototype was enhanced through the addition of a number of new operators (e.g. aggregate and update operators), new parallel join methods (Hybrid, Grace, and Sort-Merge [SCHN89a]), and a complete concurrency control mechanism.

  • In this paper we present a joint content selection and compression model for single-document summarization. The model operates over a phrase-based representation of the source document which we obtain by merging information from PCFG parse trees and dependency graphs. Using an integer linear programming formulation, the model learns to select and combine phrases subject to length, coverage and grammar constraints.

  • AMCs are, at times, weighed down by the number of schemes they offer or are under management (in some instances they are more than 200). This may result in a negative impact on the operational efficiency and profitability of the AMCs. The NFO boom that happened a few years ago has left behind a proliferation of schemes, some with overlapping objectives and investments. Yet, each scheme brings with it operational costs driven by regulatory, compliance and risk requirements.

First, it is remarkable that the most suc- cessful Italian bank has developed almost exclusively from public banks, with the exception of Credito Romagnolo. Therefore, it cannot be considered as an example of a successful merger across different pillars. Second, the geographical spread of UniCredit's activities within Italy is noteworthy. Apart from Credito Italiano, which also operated in some South- ern regions, all banks merged into UniCredit operated in the wealthy north of Italy.

  • We model the impact of bank mergers on loan competition, reserve holdings, and aggregate liquidity. A merger changes the distribution of liquidity shocks and creates an internal money market, leading to financial cost efficiencies and more precise estimates of liquidity needs. The merged banks may increase their reserve holdings through an internalization effect or decrease them because of a diversification effect. The merger also affects loan market competition, which in turn modifies the distribution of bank sizes and aggregate liquidity needs.
