The objective of this study was to establish a standard experimental model to determine the removal rate constants of wastewater pollutants in subsurface flow–constructed wetlands. This result shows the applicability of the proposed experimental model and procedure to determine the contaminant removal rate constants in constructed wetlands uniformly.

The gut microbiota plays a crucial role in food digestion, enhances the host's immune system, and against pathogens. Numerous studies have been conducted on the microbiota of insects in general and honeybees in particular. However, studies have primarily focused on adult honeybees, with fewer studies dedicated to larvae. Despite being within the hive, honeybee larvae still possess their distinct microbiota.

Recent advancements in metagenomics, particularly in the studies of conservative 16S rRNA sequences, have significantly accelerated our understanding of the relationship between corals and their associated microbial communities. While bacteria are known to be closely linked with corals, there is limited understanding of the connections between archaea and corals. Unlike previous 16S rRNA studies conducted in similar tropical coral reef ecosystems, we analyzed both the archaeal and bacterial communities associated with Acropora sp. and Lobophyllia sp.

An understanding of soil microorganisms as part of soil system and interactions between the diversity of producers and of decomposers, have major consequences on the functioning of agricultural ecosystems. Soil microorganisms control the transformation and mineralization of natural compounds and xenobiotics. The soil micro biota, existing in high density and diversity, rapidly modify the energetic performance and activity rates to changing environmental conditions.

Slow sand filtration has been an effective means of treating water for the control of microbiological contaminants. Schmutzdecke is the layer of the microbial community that is responsible for treating the water through the sand bed. As water passes through this biological layer, foreign particles are trapped and essentially eaten by bacteria forms on this layer. Development of Schmutzdecke layer depends on available microbes in raw water, food supply, oxygen supply, residence time, and wetting of sand bed.

Microbial biomass formation on root surfaces can be measured in plants growing in solution with or without an inert solid support. Carbon flow to the biomass can be measured by growing plants in solution or soil on a continuous source of 14C02 and the expected biomass formation predicted. The lack of correlation between measured and predicted biomass can be explained by oligotrophic growth of the micro-organisms.

Prosthetic valve endocarditis arising within 2 months of valve surgery is generally the result of intraoperative contamination of the prosthesis or a bacteremic postoperative complication. The nosocomial nature of these infections is reflected in their primary microbial causes: coagulase-negative staphylococci (CoNS), S. aureus, facultative gram-negative bacilli, diphtheroids, and fungi. The portals of entry and organisms causing cases beginning 12 months after surgery are similar to those in community-acquired native valve endocarditis.
