The microbial quality of unbranded groundnut oil sold in Mile 1 and Mile 3 Markets in Diobu area of Port Harcourt, Rivers State was investigated. Five samples of different unbranded groundnut oil bought from both markets were used for the microbiological analysis. The isolation and enumeration of total aerobic heterotrophic bacteria, total fungi, and total coliform bacteria counts was done with nutrient agar, potato dextrose agar and MacConkey agar medium using standard microbiological techniques.

The present study was carried out in Thiruvallur district of Tamil Nadu, India for the assessment of microbial quality of water sources available for livestock. A total of thirty water samples were collected viz., surface water sources such as lake and pond; municipal water supply; ground water sources such as open well and deep bore well. Microbial assessment was performed by using Presumptive Coliform Test (PCT) and Heterotrophic Plate Count (HPC). All the water samples were contaminated with coliforms.

The microbial ecology of an outdoor artwork gallery was evaluated using basic microbiological standardize techniques. The sculptures made up of wood, cement and cast metal had a mean heterotrophic bacterial count of; wood (3.2×104 ), cement (4.3×104 ) and metal (2.5×104 ) while the fungal count were wood (4.6×104 ), cement (2.7×104 ) and metal (1.8×104 ) colonies forming unit per milliliter of the scrapped solutions.

Marine aquaculture is the fastest growing food producing sector with major contribution from carps in terms of volume and shrimp by value. Continuous development of aquaculture demands new alternative technologies to achieve sustainable production with low economic cost. The microbial based systems like biofloc technology (zero water exchange systems) and artificial substrate integrated (periphyton based) in normal culture systems represents the best methods of practice to get healthy shrimp production.

Microorganisms from dusts of organic origin was identified from some saw mill, (Site 1) and a poultry farm (Site 1) in Port Harcourt. The exposure to these organic dusts by people employed in these establishments over a long period of time can lead to occupational health diseases especially in immune compromised persons. Nutrient Agar, Sabaroud Dextrose Agar (SDA), and Mac Conkey Agar (MA) in sedimentation method were used to isolate microorganisms.

Our results generally showed that in the investigated microbial community autotrophic component was dominant over the heterotrophic component during the winter season, while dominance of heterotrophic component in the microbial community was observed during the warmer seasons. Further, within the prokaryotic community heterotrophic prokaryotes were mostly dominant throughout the studied area.
