  • An intrauterine device used by more than 150 millions of women worldwide is one of the most efficient methods of contraception. The aim of the study is to compare the genital tract microbial flora of women prior to and after insertion of IUCD and to find out the relation of microbial flora of removed IUCDs with duration of its use. The study included 40 women who came for IUCD insertion and 80 IUCD users who came for follow up and/or removal of IUCD. High vaginal swabs, endocervical swabs and IUCDs were collected and subjected to Gram staining.

  • Vermicompost is an organic fertilizer which converts waste to wealth in a safe and healthy way as it is produced by biopotential of earthworm. It contains plant growth hormones, enzymes, microbial population, and free of harmful pathogens. Application of such a microbiologically active organic substrate may have important effects on the microbial properties of the media. A study was conducted to find out the effect of organic manures in combination with microbial bio inoculants on the growth, plant height, wet weight, dry weight, and yield of coriander.

  • The objective of the water treatment is to supply potable water that is chemically and microbiologically safe for human consumption. This purity can be achieved by a variety of processes depending upon the source and nature of the water. These processes include clarification, sedimentation, filtration and disinfections. The overall main aim of these procedures is to reduce the number of organisms present in the water and find an essential safeguard against waterborne microbial diseases.

  • Microbiological infection plays vital role in determining the outcome as well as cost and duration of the hospital stay for patients admitted in ICU setup. Of late nosocomial infections especially ventilator associated pneumonias (VAP) have been recognized to be associated with significant morbidity and mortality in intubated patients. It is of critical importance to do regular surveillance of important pathogen (like Methicillin resistant staphylococcus aureus (MRSA), extended spectrum beta lactamase (ESBL) and carbapenemase producers) and its resistance pattern.

It is one of the most frequent, lethal, and costly complications of central venous catheterization and also the most common cause of nosocomial bacteraemia. Hence the present study was undertaken to find the incidence of catheter colonisation, catheter site (local) infection and CRBSI among patients with indwelling vascular catheters in a tertiary care hospital and determine their microbiological profile.

  • Burn wounds are highly susceptible to colonization and infection which creates obstacle in proper management of burn victims. Since burn wound infection shows changing trends in pathogenicity of microorganisms as well as their antibiotic sensitivity, hence, it is crucial to perform frequent evaluation of the burn wound to ensure early and appropriate therapy in burn patients. The study was conducted to find out the common organisms in infected burn wound samples and their antibiotic sensitivity pattern.

  • Otitis media is an inflammation of the middle ear cleft without reference to etiology or pathogenesis. Otitis media is more common in children, as their Eustachian Tube is shorter, narrower and more horizontal than the adult ear. Therefore, the study of microorganisms commonly associated with CSOM and their antibiotic sensitivity pattern is vital for the clinician to plan a general outline of treatment for the patient with a chronically discharging ear.
