  • A group of N−4 piperazinyl derivatives of norfloxacin was synthesized and identified by different spectroscopic techniques. The N−4 piperazinyl substituent in target compounds 2a–2k, 3a–3c, and 4a and 4b was designed to have different electronic, steric, and physicochemical properties. The antibacterial activity of the newly synthesized compounds was evaluated against Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Escherichia coli, Klebsiella pneumoniae, and Staphylococcus aureus strains using norfloxacin as a reference. Results showed that most of the tested compounds had higher activity against E. coli and K.

  • Soil forms an integral part of the ecosystem and at present the quality of a soil is defined not only in terms of its productive capacity, but also by taking the ecosystem into consideration. Consequently, when soil productivity has to be maximized, environmental effects must be given proper consideration. Thus the changes in soil quality caused by different types of land use must first be quantified for attaining sustainability in use and management.

  • An understanding of soil microorganisms as part of soil system and interactions between the diversity of producers and of decomposers, have major consequences on the functioning of agricultural ecosystems. Soil microorganisms control the transformation and mineralization of natural compounds and xenobiotics. The soil micro biota, existing in high density and diversity, rapidly modify the energetic performance and activity rates to changing environmental conditions.

  • The pharmacokinetic of levofloxacin (4 mg/kg) was studied following intravenous administration of levofloxacin in ketoprofen (3 mg/kg) treated and febrile (Lipopolysaccharide induced) goats. The concentration of levofloxacin in plasma was detected by using High Performance Liquid Chromatography. No significant changes were reported in pharmacokinetic parameters following co-administration of levofloxacin with ketoprofen. While under febrile state, significant increase in area under plasma curve and decrease in total body clearance were observed.

  • L-asparaginase acts as an efficient agent in curing certain sorts of lymphoma and leukemia by catalyzing the deamination of L-asparagine to L-aspartate and ammonia. Microorganisms are better source of L-asparginase, as their culturing, extraction and purification is more convenient than plants and other sources. As most of L-asparginases are intracellular in nature, so the selection of a suitable method for its release with maximum recovery was become more important. In present study, the resting cells of S.

  • The aim of this study is to select ferments from microorganisms isolated in palm wine to varieties of palm oil (Dura and Pisifera). The load of mesophilic aerobic germs and yeasts remains high during tapping of palm wine. The load of Lactic acid bacteria increased in Pisifera variety to log 1.4± 0.1 CFU/ml for the first day at log 2.9 ± 0.1 CFU/ml after two weeks and then decrease after the last week at log 0.6 ± 0.1 CFU/ml. In the Dura palm wine, this load increased from log 0.9 ± 0.1 CFU/ml to log 2.2 ± 0.2 CFU/ml after two weeks.

  • Though the cheese production through the curd milk is the oldest science, the fermentation technology unfurled the cheese production many thousand years ago and by now cheese is available in hundreds of different types and flavors from different climatic and environmental region. Availability of cheese in different flavors is mainly due to the origin/ source of milk and whether the milk is pasteurized and the butter content of the milk. The interplay of different microflora, physical and chemical conditions play role in production of various flavor types.

  • Lipases are enzymes that catalyze the transformation reactions of triglycerides in to fatty acids and glycerol. They can be produced by animals, plants and microorganisms. This article presents the isolation of lipase-producing bacteria from soil samples collected from sites contaminated with waste from palm oil production in the littoral region of Cameroon. These permit to isolate a multitude of bacteria capable of producing lipase from Rhodamine B-agar olive oil culture medium.

  • Soil contains huge diversity of microorganism which produces different types of enzymes. Amylase is one of them that hydrolyses starch into its monomer compounds, the smallest being glucose. Hence, amylase is a very prevalent enzyme produced biologically by various kinds of microorganisms and used in industrial sectors for various purposes. Soil bacteria can be isolated and commercially grown in large numbers to produce a vast amount of amylase. In addition, amylases that are extracted require optimum conditions to show greatest activity.
