This leading textbook in the field examines the mechanisms underlying toxicity, particularly the events at the molecular level and the factors that determine and affect toxicity. The new edition is updated to reflect the latest research into the biochemical basis of toxicology and the growing concerns over the adverse effects of drugs, environmental pollution, and occupational hazards.

Ebook "Protein folding and misfolding: Neurodegenerative diseases" is to review the molecular events initiated by unfolded or misfolded proteins leading to cell death via the development of pathological inclusions, with special emphasis on the macromolecular associations of the malfolded proteins into characteristic ultrastructures found in the cases of neurological disorders, some of them are shown in this issue.

Patterns in expression data conserved across multiple independent disease studies are likely to represent important molecular events underlying the disease. We present the INSPIRE method to infer modules of co-expressed genes and the dependencies among the modules from multiple expression datasets that may contain different sets of genes.

Prognosis evaluation of advanced breast cancer and therapeutic strategy are mostly based on clinical features of advanced disease and molecular profiling of the primary tumor. Very few studies have evaluated the impact of metastatic subtyping during the initial metastatic event in a prospective study.

Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) is a major nosocomial pathogen subdivided into lineages termed sequence types (STs). Since the 1950s, successive waves of STs have appeared and replaced previously dominant lineages. One such event has been occurring in China since 2013, with community-associated (CA-MRSA) strains including ST59 largely replacing the previously dominant healthcare-associated (HA-MRSA) ST239.

Ebook "Kinesin protocols (Methods in molecular biology, Volume 164)" present a wide range of domain organizations with a motor domain located at different positions in the molecule. Their motility properties are also variable in directionality, velocity, and such other characteristics as bundling activity and processivity. Finally, and most important, they practicipate in a multitude of cellular functions.

Prediction of patient survival from tumor molecular ‘-omics’ data is a key step toward personalized medicine. Cox models performed on RNA profiling datasets are popular for clinical outcome predictions. But these models are applied in the context of “high dimension”, as the number p of covariates (gene expressions) greatly exceeds the number n of patients and e of events.

Fungal fruiting bodies are complex three-dimensional structures that are formed to protect and disperse the sexual spores. Their morphogenesis requires the concerted action of numerous genes; however, at the molecular level, the spatio-temporal sequence of events leading to the mature fruiting body is largely unknown.

The phenomenon of pH excursion was demonstrated for pH gradient elution of monoclonal antibodies (mAbs) on strong cation exchange resins under high overloading conditions. The mAbs differed in molecular structure and isoelectric point, and the resins in matrix structure and ligand density. In all cases, elution of the proteins was accompanied with distortion of the concentration, pH and conductometric profiles.

Adenosine-to-inosine (A-to-I) RNA editing is an essential post-transcriptional mechanism mediated by ADAR enzymes that have been recently associated with cancer. Here, we characterize the inosinome signature in normal brain and de novo glioblastoma (GBM) using new metrics that re-stratify GBM patients according to their editing profiles and indicate this post-transcriptional event as a possible molecular mechanism for sexual dimorphism in GBM.

Diverse molecular alterations associated with smoking in normal and precursor lung cancer cells have been reported, yet their role in lung cancer etiology remains unclear. A prominent example is hypomethylation of the aryl hydrocarbon-receptor repressor (AHRR) locus, which is observed in blood and squamous epithelial cells of smokers, but not in lung cancer.
