Owing to its purity and exceptional mechanical performance, bacterial nanocellulose (BNC) is well suited for tissue engineering applications. BNC assembles as a network that features similarities with the extracellular matrix (ECM) while exhibiting excellent integrity in the wet state, suitable for suturing and sterilization.

A series of degradable films was prepared, and 2 formulas of polyethylene (PE) films with the highest degradable performance were experimentally determined. These films contained 3.43% and 0.44% stearate, and were denoted as PE-3 and PE-4, respectively. Their biodegradability was studied in a laboratory-controlled composting test using ordinary PE film (OPEF) as a control. Contrast composting experiments indicated that the biodegradability of untreated samples was very low, and that the biodegradation rates of PE films after natural aging were significantly higher.

In this research, molecular imprinting polymers (MIPs) for D-arabinitol were synthesized using a bulk polymerization method through a noncovalent approach. The MIPs were prepared by using D-arabinitol as a template, acrylamide as a functional monomer, ethylene glycol dimethacrylateas cross-linker, benzoyl peroxide as an initiator and dimethyl sulfoxideas a porogen. MIPS was synthesized in several formulas with a different molar ratio of template to functional monomers and cross-linker.

The yak is a species of livestock which is crucial for local communities of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau and adjacent regions and naturally owns one more thoracic vertebra than cattle. Recently, a sub-population of yak termed as the Jinchuan yak has been identified with over half its members own a thoracolumbar vertebral formula of T15L5 instead of the natural T14L5 arrangement.

A series of composite materials of general molecular formula (1 x) Na2SO4 (x) LDT was prepared by solid state reaction method. The phase structure and functionalization of these materials were defined by X-ray diffraction (XRD) and Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR) respectively. Differential thermal analysis (DTA) revealed that the hump of phase transition at 250 C has decreased while its thermal stability was enhanced.

Different composition of composite material of zirconium dioxide co-doped with magnesium oxide [MgO (x)] and calcium oxide [CaO(y)] according to the general molecular formula {1 (x + y)}ZrO2-(x)MgO-(y) CaO were prepared by co-precipitation method and characterized by different techniques, such as XRD, FTIR, TG-DTA, and SEM. Co-doping was conducted to enhance the ionic conductivity, as mixed system show higher conductivity than the single doped one.

Chapter 7 - Structure and synthesis of Alkenes. The goal in this chapter: Draw and name alkenes and cycloalkenes; given a molecular formula, calculate the number of double bonds and rings; explain how the stability of alkenes depends on their structures; show how alkenes can be synthesized by eliminations from alkyl halides and alcohols.

Considering that, when mothers do not breast-feed, or only do so partially, there is a legitimate market for infant formula and for suitable ingredients from which to prepare it; that all these products should accordingly be made accessible to those who need them through commercial or non-commercial distribution systems; and that they should not be marketed or distributed in ways that may interfere with the protection and promotion of breast-feeding; Recognizing further that inappropriate feeding practices lead to infant malnutrition, morbidity and mortality in all countries, and tha...

Outside of Chicago’s City Hall is a giant Picasso sculpture of a weeping woman. For the more artistically challenged, it takes quite a while before you can “see” it, before you can really make out what Picasso was getting at and how he got there. Five miles to the south of City Hall, in the basement of the University of Chicago’s Chemistry Department, lies a piece of glassware of which the great artist would have been proud. Again to the uninitiated, it takes quite a while to “see” it. It looks like a deranged spider; indeed, those who work with it call it the Tarantula. When it is working.

The technique now known as MS has its roots in atomic physics at the beginning of the twentieth century, when it was originally applied by physicists toward answering questions on the nature of atoms. Throughout much of the 1800s, the prevailing wisdom held that atoms were indivisible, that all atoms of a given element had the same mass, and that the masses of all elements were multiples of the mass of hydrogen [7–9].

This book focuses on the Fourier transform applications in the analysis of some types of materials. The field of Fourier transform has seen explosive growth during the past decades, as phenomenal advances both in research and application have been made. During the preparation of this book, we found that almost all the textbooks on materials analysis have a section devoted to the Fourier transform theory. Most of those describe some formulas and algorithms, but one can easily be lost in seemingly incomprehensible mathematics.

Chemical substances (also called pure substances) may well be defined as "any material with a definite chemical composition" in an introductory general chemistry textbook.[2] According to this definition a chemical substance can either be a pure chemical element or a pure chemical compound. But, there are exceptions to this definition; a pure substance can also be defined as a form of matter that has both definite composition and distinct properties.[3] The chemical substance index published by CAS also includes several alloys of uncertain composition.

Chemists frequently refer to chemical compounds using chemical formulae or molecular structure of the compound. There has been a phenomenal growth in the number of chemical compounds being synthesized (or isolated), and then reported in the scientific literature by professional chemists around the world.[13] An enormous number of chemical compounds are possible through the chemical combination of the known chemical elements. As of May 2011, about sixty million chemical compounds are known.
