With the aim of inferring phylogenetic relationships among 86 species (including 45 species from Vietnam) mostly of the subfamily Convallarioideae (=Nolinoideae) (Asparagaceae sensu APG IV), we analyzed their chloroplast DNA sequences (rbcL and trnL-F) by both Bayesian inference (BI) and maximum likelihood (ML) methods. Our dataset included six of the seven tribes classified in this subfamily; Convallarieae, Dracaeneae, Liriopeae Nolineae, Polygonateae and Rusceae (Eriospermeae not examined).

Targeted therapies specifically act by blocking the activity of proteins that are encoded by genes critical for tumorigenesis. However, most cancers acquire resistance and long-term disease remission is rarely observed. Understanding the time course of molecular changes responsible for the development of acquired resistance could enable optimization of patients’ treatment options.

Large-sequencing cancer genome projects have shown that tumors have thousands of molecular alterations and their frequency is highly heterogeneous. In such scenarios, physicians and oncologists routinely face lists of cancer genomic alterations where only a minority of them are relevant biomarkers to drive clinical decisionmaking.

Non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) is the most common cause of cancer-related deaths worldwide and is primarily treated with radiation, surgery, and platinum-based drugs like cisplatin and carboplatin. The major challenge in the treatment of NSCLC patients is intrinsic or acquired resistance to chemotherapy. Molecular markers predicting the outcome of the patients are urgently needed.

The present study, based on the molecular data of four DNA regions supported the monophyly of C. sinensis. The Camellia sinensis var. assamica from Vietnam formed a clade together, but it is far from Camellia sinensis var. assamica from India and China.

The study using molecular data from three DNA regions (matK, rbcL, and trnH-psbA) supported the monophyly of Melodinus. The M. cochinchinensis from Vietnam and China are closely related. There are some genetic variations in the sequences of Melodinus cochinchinensis from Belgium versus Asiatic M. cochinchinensis, as well as the phylogenetic position of the species, suggesting the possibility of misidentification of M. cochinchinensis from Belgium.

A new species Pseudocercospora solanicola is discovered causing severe leaf spot disease on Solanum nigrum from Sonebhadra. Species is described and illustrated based on morphology, molecular sequence analysis and phylogeny of the large subunit (LSU) and internal transcribed spacer region of the nuclear ribosomal RNA (rRNA) gene. Morphologically, new species has similarity with allied species in Pseudocercospora but differs in having black circular, velvety leaf spot and size of stromata, conidia and conidiophores. A key to Pseudocercospora species on Solanum has been provided.

According to the current taxonomic delimitation, the Mediterranean genus Iberis comprises about 30 species. Among them, the taxonomy and species delimitation of Iberis simplex and its morphologically close relatives (I. attica, I. carica, I. gypsicola, I. halophila, and I. spruneri), described here as the I. simplex species complex, are controversial and several different names are used for the members of this complex.

The phylogenetic relationship of 83 taxa of Santalaceae s.l. was reconstructed based on the molecular data sets including the nuclear ribosomal (small and large subunit rDNA) and the chloroplast rbcL, matK, and trnL-F regions. The Maximum likelihood (ML) and Bayesian inference (BI) methods were used to build the phylogenetic trees.

Alignment-free sequence analyses have been applied to problems ranging from whole-genome phylogeny to the classification of protein families, identification of horizontally transferred genes, and detection of recombined sequences. The strength of these methods makes them particularly useful for next-generation sequencing data processing and analysis.
