This article will not describe the practices of this belief or its values. It mainly analyzes the role of the community in their own religious practices and makes some suggestions with a desire to enhance the roles of the community (the mediums and their congregation) in preserving and promoting the worship of Goddesses.

In the mind of the Vietnamese, each god or deity has his/her “duty” and function. The various gods and deities are related to different aspects of the human life, such as the Lady of the Realm (Bà Chúa Xứ) governs the land, the Mother Goddess of Water (Bà Thủy) governs the water, Avalokitesvara Bodhisattva saves the unfortunate, the Mazu Goddess (Bà Thiên Hậu) takes care of the sea and blesses all people, etc.. Currently, Vietnam is in its development process to be an industrial country. The industrialization and modernization have been boosted so that it will basically become such a country in 2020. The reality shows that this development process is accompnaied by the resurgence of the religious activities, and one of them is the cult of Bà Chúa Xứ (Lady of the Realm/ Mother Goddess). Phú Quốc island as well as Phú Quốc district is a part of Kiên Giang province. The Phú Quốc’s natural landscape is so beautiful and it has a diversity of terrain. For living in this island, people have to adapt to the sea and depend on the sea. Their adaptation and dependence leads to the love and the gratitude to the sea, and it becomes the symbol of spiritual life. The islanders’ gratitude is manifested by the cult of the Goddess is called Bà (Lady) and the placeof worship is also called Dinh Bà (Mansion of Lady).

According to the work of Vietnam family culture and development, the author indicates that: "people become human beings because they are spiritual." (1) The author recognizes that everyone has a spirit. In Vietnamese belief, rice field, land, and water belong to Yin. Agricultural Spirit always creates enriched life for farmer, thus people had imaged a Land Spirit. This spirit always is female - an original Mother Goddess. In this legend of Đông Cuông Mother Goddess, Âu Cơ Mother Goddess, Man Nương is an original Mother Goddess. When Buddhism developed in our country, Tứ Pháp (Cloud Spirit, Rainy Spirit, Thunder Spirit, Lightning Spirit) incarnate to Buddha and they had worshiped in Vietnam’s pagoda.
