Ebook "Arbuscular mycorrhizas: Physiology and function" an exceptional proliferation of interest in mycorrhizal biology has developed. This has been associated with advances in different research disciplines such as genetics, genomics, proteomics, metabolomics and physiology, advances which have generated better insight into topics of mycorrhizal biology, including the mechanisms of host-mycorrhiza interactions pre- and post-penetration, the influence of the symbiosis on the host and its surroundings, and the evolution and diversity of mycorrhization.

Associations of tree roots with diverse symbiotic mycorrhizal fungi have distinct effects on whole plant functioning. An untested explanation might be that such effect variability is associated with distinct impacts of different fungi on gene expression in local and distant plant organs.

In recent decade, with advances in molecular techniques, studies in AMF have turned to directly identification from soil samples by polymerase chain reaction (PCR) methods (Husband et al., 2002). In the present investigation, the diversity of AMF on medicinal plants G. sylvestre and C. longa in Vietnam was studied using PCR based method for specific AM fungal ribosomal RNA (rDNA) sequences. This paper use molecular approaches to determine and assess the distribution of AM fungi among different medicinal plant hosts.

We investigated the diversity of AM fungi in Dalli-Rajhara (Chhattisgarh, India) mine overburden (OB) dump and compares with natural forest soils of adjoining areas. Soil samples were collected from rhizosphere region of planted and naturally growing tree species in mine OB dump. AM spore was isolated by wet sieving and decanting and sucrose floatation method, spore density (per 100g dry soil) was calculated.

Investigation has been taken up to reveal the spore diversity of Arbuscular Mycorrhizal (AM) fungi in the soils of five different agro-climatic zones of Andhra Pradesh. Maximum AM fungal spore number was recorded in Central Telangana Zone (47) followed by North Telangana Zone (32.4) per 100g of soil. The lowest spore number was recorded in Godavari Zone (31) followed by Krishna Zone (30.6) and North Coastal Zone (30.5) of Andhra Pradesh.

Below-ground linkage between plant and fungal communities is one of the major drivers of terrestrial ecosystem dynamics. However, we still have limited knowledge of how such plant–fungus associations vary in their community-scale properties depending on fungal functional groups and geographic locations.

This study aims to investigate the colonization, composition, diversity and favorable environmental conditions of Saudi Arabian desert habituated AMF in order to explore their agricultural, ecological and biotechnological potential. The total number of collected plants from the three studied areas was 14 plants, represented by 9 unique plants. Seven different plants were collected from Riyadh and Qassim regions. However, five plants (Rumex vesicarius, Echium rauwolfia, Anthemis deserti, Erucaria hispanica and Picris sp.) were collected from both Riyadh and Qassim regions.

The aim of the present investigation was to prepare an inventory of ectomycorrhiza prevailing in Zabarvan forest range of Western Himalayas of Kashmir and assess their diversity index and species richness. Three forest sites viz., Dachigam, Shalimar and Shankaracharia hills were surveyed periodically for three consecutive years (2011-2013) for ectomycorrhiza. A total number of 67 species in 23 genera belonging to 21 families in 07 orders were recorded. The study revealed that mycorrhizal fungal species richness was more in autumn season (45 species) and less in summer (11 species).

Conservative methods of harvest propagation to develop expansion and yield of vegetation underneath in diverse ecological threats are lengthy and not triumphant in many cases. Use of expensive injurious agrochemicals and pesticides causes stern danger to environment and renders growth of challenging pathogens. At present time, more and more attention has been made towards cost-effective and environment-friendly alternatives to improve natural wealth and assist plant development.

Percent colonization, spore density and diversity of arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi associated with the rhizospheric soil and roots of pippali growing wild as well as under cultivated conditions were investigated. It was found that 100% of the surveyed sample was of mycorrhizal infestation. The spore colonization per cent of AMF ranged from 30.80 to 66.50% spores per 100 g of soil. The maximum spore population (185.

We studied the arbuscular mycorrhizal (AM) and dark septate endophyte (DSE) fungal associations in five species of potgrown Asparagus (A. aethiopicus, A. densiflorus, A. setaceus, A. racemosus, and A. umbellatus). Root colonization by AM and DSE fungi and AM spore numbers in the soil were assessed. AM fungal diversity indices like species richness, Shannon–Weiner index, Simpson’s index, evenness, and Jaccard’s index were determined.
