Necrotic enteritis, which is caused by Clostridium perfringens, has resulted in more than $2 billion losses in the poultry industry every year. Due to the ban of antibiotics in feed industry, alternatives like environment improvement and probiotics have been found to be effective as well.

Necrotic enteritis is a significant problem to the poultry industry globally and, in Norway up to 30% of Norwegian turkey grow-outs can be affected. However, despite an awareness that differences exist between necrotic enteritis in chickens and turkeys, little information exists concerning the pathogenesis, immunity, microbiota or experimental reproduction of necrotic enteritis in turkeys.

Specific studies on the epidemiology of necrotic enteritis in turkeys are absent in the literature. Necrotic enteritis is common in turkeys and a leading cause of use of therapeutic antibiotics. This study describes the incidence of necrotic enteritis in turkey farms, and the association between incidence and bird age, season, faecal oocyst counts, grow-out size and feed mill.

Clostridium perfringens causes a range of diseases in animals and humans including necrotic enteritis in chickens and food poisoning and gas gangrene in humans. Necrotic enteritis is of concern in commercial chicken production due to the cost of the implementation of infection control measures and to productivity losses. This study has focused on the genomic analysis of a range of chicken-derived C. perfringens isolates, from around the world and from different years.

This decrease in population may be attributed to poor healthcare and management practices in piglet raring (Roy et al., 2014). Here, we are highlighting two severe cases of necrotic enteritis caused by β2 toxin of C. perfringens in piglets belonging to Doom breed.

Necrotic enteritis (NE) is sporadic disease of avian species which has been reported from most of the areas of world in which poultry are reared. The causative agent of necrotic enteritis is Clostridium perfringens, a gram-positive anaerobe. The aim of this study was isolation of C. perfringens from NE cases along with antibiotic sensitivity study of the isolates and histopathology of the NE suspected intestine.

Clostridium perfringens, a gram-positive, anaerobic, rod-shaped bacterium, is the third leading cause of human foodborne bacterial disease and a cause of necrotic enteritis in poultry. It is controlled using antibiotics, widespread use of which may lead to development of drug-resistant bacteria.

Caecal coccidiosis was diagnosed in Rajasri birds of nineteen weeks age presented for routine postmortem examination at Department of Veterinary Pathology, College of Veterinary Science, Hyderabad. Clinically birds showed inappetence, depression, ruffled feathers, bloody diarrhea, anemia and mortality of about 21 birds out of 65 birds (32.3%) for a period of two weeks. Grossly, extremely ballooned caeca, white necrotic foci visible from outside of caeca, haemorrhagic enteritis, watery ingesta mixed with mucus and blood were observed.

The present work was carried out to study the patho-morphological and biochemical changes in experimentally induced Necrotic enteritis in broiler chicken. Two experimental groups T1 & T2 each comprising of 40 day old female broiler chicks, were fed with normal feed on day 1 to 16. On day17th, 18th, 19th and 20th, they were orally administered with Clostridium perfringens at the dose rate of 4X108 CFU per bird thrice a day along with 10 times the dose of Livacox vaccine on day18th then from day 21 to 42 normal feed was fed to both the groups.

All of these methods of processing poultry manure will be discussed in greater detail later in this review. It is important to note that all of these systems have merit. A certain system may work for a particular operation but not for another operation because of certain circumstances, such as location, climate, size, land availability, crops, and markets. All of these factors greatly influence the way poultry manure is collected, handled and processed. Each system of collection, handling and processing has its own merits and uses.

Probiotics may exert a multidirectional effects affecting the gene expression in intestinal cells. A number of positive effects of probiotics have been indicated, particularly their beneficial effect in the pathologic conditions including antibiotic-associated traveler's diarrhea, irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), lactose intolerance, dental caries, gastroduodenal ulcers due to Helicobacter pylori, hepatic encephalopathy, intestinal motility disorders and neonatal necrotizing enterocolitis.
