The bacteria capable of fixing atmospheric nitrogen were isolated from cassava cultivated soils of Vietnam. The potential isolates were identified by analyzing the 16S rRNA gene and by morphological, biochemical, cultural characteristics. The selected isolates were assigned to the species Bacillus sp. DQT2 M17, Bacillus subtilis DTAN6 M17, and Bacillus megaterium DSHB I8.

: Boron is a naturally occurring trace element found in organic and inorganic complexes. Boron-containing compounds are required for living organisms for diverse metabolic functions, including nitrogen fixation in microorganisms, cell wall stability in plants, and bone and carbohydrate metabolism in animals. The number of studies about the effect of boron in biological model systems is very limited; so far, there has been no study on the correlation between boron and amyloid-beta toxicity.

Rhizobial symbionts belong to the classes Alphaproteobacteria and Betaproteobacteria (called “alpha” and “beta”-rhizobia). Most knowledge on the genetic basis of symbiosis is based on model strains belonging to alpha-rhizobia. Mimosa pudica is a legume that offers an excellent opportunity to study the adaptation toward symbiotic nitrogen fixation in beta-rhizobia compared to alpha-rhizobia. In a previous study (Melkonian et al., Environ Microbiol 16:2099–111, 2014) we described the symbiotic competitiveness of M. pudica symbionts belonging to Burkholderia, Cupriavidus and Rhizobium species.
