Achyranthes aspera L., belongs to the genus Achyranthes (Amaranthaceae). It is a well-known medicine in traditional remedies in Viet Nam, China and India. A. aspera leaves has a bitter, sour taste, clearing heat, decongesting, low leprosy, strong blood circulation. This paper reported the isolation of five ecdysterols and a saponin from Achyranthes aspera.

In addition, their inhibitory activity on NO production and cytotoxic effects against human embryonic kidney cells (HEK-293A) and human hepatocellular carcinoma (HepG2) were evaluated. This is the first study of the phytochemical investigation of P. ginseng sprouts cultivated in Vietnam and ginseng sprouts also contained the same main active ginsenosides as in the 4–6-year old roots.

Seven known compounds, including two neolignans, four lignans, and one flavane were isolated from the methanol extract of Pandanus tonkinenis fruits. Their structures were determined to be ficusal, vladinol F, medioresinol, syringaresinol, lariciresinol, secoisolariciresinol, and luteoliflavan by analysis of MS and NMR data as well as by comparison of their spectral data with those reported in the literature.

This study would like to point out the potential compounds as inflammatory agents. Herein, we displayed the isolation and structural identification of thirteen compounds including ten flavonoids, one tannin, one triterpenoid, and one derivative of benzoic acid from the methanolic extract. Furthermore, all of them were evaluated the anti-inflammatory activity.

Laggera tomentosa Sch. Bip. ex Oliv. et Hiern (Asteraceae), an endemic Ethiopian medicinal plant, is traditionally used to treat various ailments. Previously, the chemical constituents of the essential oil (EO) of its leaves and inflorescence were documented. However, no data about the chemical compositions of other parts of the EOs of the plant have been reported to date. Moreover, there are no previous biological activity reports on any parts of the EOs of this plant.

The present paper describes chemical composition, NO inhibitory activity against lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced nitric oxide release, cytotoxic activity against MCF7 and Hep3B cell lines of the essential oil of Globba pendula Roxb. rhizomes. A total of 25 components of the essential oil were identified by using gas chromatography–mass spectrometry (GC-MS), accounting for 89.55 % of the total oil. -selinen (36.45 %) and ishwarane (10.76 %) were the main components.

The antioxidant and antibacterial properties of the nutmeg oil (NMO) were assessed in the present study, and its optimum inclusion level in chicken meat patties as a natural preservative was ascertained. NMO was added to the chicken patties at 0.01%, 0.05% and 0.10% levels. Chicken patties without any addition served as control. Emulsion pH, product pH, emulsion stability, product yield and water activity did not differ significantly among the treatments. DPPH scavenging activity of NMO was significantly highest in 0.10% and lowest in 0.01% treatments.

The objective of the present investigation was to isolate and identify the antimicrobial activity showing actinomycetes associated with sponges. Sponges such as Acanthella klethra, Theonella cylendrica, Helicona sp., Auletta sp., and Callyspongia sp. were collected at Sangumal, in Rameswaram island, Ramanathapuram District, Tamil Nadu, India. Isolates of 22 actinomycetes were isolated from sponges. Isolates No. 16 showed high antibacterial and antifungal activity and the isolate was identified as Streptomyces sp.

In particular, the effect on leukemia U937 cells was remarkable, but there was almost no effect on bile duct adenocarcinoma TYBDC-1 cells or pancreatic KP-3L cancer cells. In addition, almost no effect was exerted on three normal cells (human hepatocyte (NHH), human mammary epithelial cells (NHME), human epidermal melanocytes (NHEM)) at the same concentration. Therefore, it was revealed that the human cell proliferation inhibitory effect of the C.

Rice is one of the important cereal crop and known to be affected by many diseases. Bacterial leaf blight of rice is a destructive disease of rice, known to be caused by Xanthomonas oryzae pv. oryzae and it also be reported to cause by species of Pantoea. BLB diseased samples were collected from southern districts of Tamil Nadu and upon isolation, the pathogen was thought to be Xanthomonas oryzae pv. oryzae. But, the results of biochemical and molecular characterization revealed that the causal agent was not Xanthomonas, but a new species of bacterium Pantoea stewartii subsp.

The presence and growth of microorganisms in foods is harmful to human and animal health. The consumption of those foods results in food borne diseases. Thus the major concern is the control of microorganisms to increase the shelf life and prevent harmful microorganisms. Bioactive peptides are known for their ability to inhibit protein-protein interactions due to their small size and specificity. Nature remains the largest source of bioactive peptides since plants, animals, fungi, microbes and their products contain various proteins in them.

We succeeded in large volume artificial cultivation of Onygena corvina. The appearance (shape, color, and size) of fruiting bodies of cultured bacteria was almost the same as that of wild one. We screened their metabolites for antiproliferative activities against nine human cancer cells in vitro. Culture filtrates (metabolite-containing media) of O. corvina were lyophilized and resuspended in phosphate buffer to investigate them in vitro. As a result, these metabolites effectively inhibited the growth of some cancer cells in a concentration-dependent manner.

In this study, we describe 3D cytotoxic and histone deacetylase (HDAC) inhibitory activities of two nordammarane triterpenoids hupehenol D (1) and 12β-hydoxy-3,15-dioxo-20,21,22-23,24,25,26,27-octanordammanrane (2) isolated from the leaves of Viburnum sambucinum. The result showed that (1) and (2) exhibited a strong activity against 3D models of LLC cell line with the IC50 value of 25.89 µM and 15.58 µM, respectively. Compound 1 weakly inhibited activity of enzyme HDAC with the IC50 of 20.78±2.86 M while compound 2 exhibited no effect on HDAC at 25 M.
