Aim of the thesis: Development of a new method for determining concentration of the radionuclides in enviromental samples by mean of gamma spectroscopy. Establishing a data set of the soil-plant transfer factor (TF) of radionuclides 238U, 232Th and 40K for some vegetables in Truong Sa island and that of 238U, 232Th, 40K and 137Cs for tea tree from Luong My farm, Hoa Binh province, Vietnam and evaluate the influence of natural radionuclide concentration to the soil-plant transfer process of artificial radionuclide 137Cs.

In this thesis, the author focussed on providing an application framework to be used in brain segmentation - the process of tumor detection. This constitutes setting up software bundled into a Window machine which is easily distributable. Moreover, a segmentation algorithm was implemented and tested using the provided software. In order to test the bundled software by implementing specific brain segmentation from the literature, the author used CT scans freely available from the database of 108 Central Military Hospital.

Quantitative conclusions by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) regarding States' nuclear material inventories and flows are provided in the form of material balance evaluations (MBEs). MBEs use facility estimates of the material unaccounted for together with verification data to monitor for possible nuclear material diversion.

The control rod assembly controls reactor power by adjusting its position during normal operation and shuts down chain reactions by its free drop under scram conditions. Therefore, the drop performance of the control rod assembly is important for the safety of a nuclear reactor. In this study, the drop performance of the conceptually designed control rod assembly for the prototype generation IV sodium-cooled fast reactor that is being developed at the Korea Atomic Energy Research Institute as a next-generation nuclear reactor was experimentally investigated.

Many biological C-H activation reactions exhibit nonclassical kinetic isotope effects (KIEs). These nonclassical KIEs are too large (kH/kD 7) and/or exhibit unusual temperature dependence such that the Arrhenius prefactor KIEs (AH/AD) fall outside of the semiclassical range near unity. The focus of this minireview is to discuss such KIEs within the context of the environmentally coupled hydrogen tunneling model.

The interaction of multiple HIV-1 regulator of virion (Rev) proteins with the viral RNA target, the Rev response element (RRE), is critical for nuclear export of incompletely spliced and unspliced viral RNA, and for the onset of the late phase in the viral replication cycle. The heterogeneity of the Rev–RRE complex has made it difficult to study using conventional structural methods.

We prove the ionization conjecture within the Hartree-Fock theory of atoms. More precisely, we prove that, if the nuclear charge is allowed to tend to infinity, the maximal negative ionization charge and the ionization energy of atoms nevertheless remain bounded. Moreover, we show that in Hartree-Fock theory the radius of an atom (properly defined) is bounded independently of its nuclear charge. Contents 1. Introduction and main results 2. Notational conventions and basic prerequisites 3. Hartree-Fock theory 4. Thomas-Fermi theory ...

– PHYSICAL SCIENCE – Each kind of atom or molecule can gain or lose energy only in particular discrete amounts. When an atom gains energy, light at the wavelength associated with that energy is absorbed. When an atom loses energy, light at the wavelength associated with that energy is emitted. These wavelengths can be used to identify elements. Nuclear Reactions Key Concepts This chapter gave you a crash course in the basics of physical science. Here are the most important concepts to remember: ➧ All matter is composed of tiny particles ➧ ➧ ➧ ➧ ➧ ➧ called atoms.
