Synovial fibroblasts (SFs) are specialized cells of the synovium that provide nutrients and lubricants for the proper function of diarthrodial joints. Recent evidence appreciates the contribution of SF heterogeneity in arthritic pathologies. However, the normal SF profiles and the molecular networks that govern the transition from homeostatic to arthritic SF heterogeneity remain poorly defined.

Ebook "Algae and environmental sustainability (Developments in applied phycology, Volume 7)" presents the dynamic role of algae in a sustainable environment. Two major aspects, namely bioenergy and bioremediation, have been elaborated in various chapter contributed by scientists and teachers from different geographical areas throughout the world. Algal biofuels is an emerging area of equal interest to researchers, industries, and policy makers working or focusing on alternative (i.e. renewable) fuels.

Genome-wide investigation of molecular mechanisms for high-altitude adaptation has attracted great attention in the last few years. In order to understand the contribution of gene expression level variations to high-altitude adaptation in Asiatic toads (Bufo gargarizans), we implemented a reciprocal transplant experiment between low- and high-altitude sites and sequenced 12 transcriptomes from brain, heart, and liver tissues.

Gut microbes significantly contribute to nutrient digestion and absorption, intestinal health and immunity, and are essential for the survival and environmental adaptation of wild animals. However, there are few studies on the gut microbiota of captive and wild North China leopard (Panthera pardus japonensis).

The fasting and stress associated with road transportation contributes to a lack of energy and a decline in the immune system of beef cattle. Therefore, it is essential for beef cattle to enhance energy reserves before transportation. Creatine pyruvate (CrPyr) is a new multifunctional nutrient that can provide both pyruvate and creatine, which are two intermediate products of energy metabolism.

This study deals with the data on Turkish records of oribatid mites that play an important role in decomposition of organic matter, nutrient cycling, and soil formation. Oribatid mites in litter, lichen, moss, and soil collected from Sakarya and Yozgat provinces were sampled between 2014 and 2020. Standard methods were used for extraction, detection, preservation, and preparation of mites from the material collected from study area.

Feed efficiency (FE) is an indicator of efficiency in converting energy and nutrients from feed into a tissue that is of major environmental and economic significance. The molecular mechanisms contributing to differences in FE are not fully elucidated, therefore the objective of this study was to profile the porcine Longissimus thoracis et lumborum (LTL) muscle transcriptome, examine the product quality from pigs divergent in FE and investigate the functional networks underpinning the potential relationship between product quality and FE.

The nosocomial pathogen Enterococcus faecium can survive for prolonged periods of time on surfaces in the absence of nutrients. This trait is thought to contribute to the ability of E. faecium to spread among patients in hospitals. There is currently a lack of data on the mechanisms that are responsible for the ability of E. faecium to survive in the absence of nutrients.

In points of annual crop farming and close to residential the contribution of inorganic fertilizers to the total concentration of nitrate was estimated, based on the δ 15N-NO3 values, to be as high as more than 60% and the contribution of water waste was around 35-40%. This is the first time isotopic signature of nitrogen-15 in nitrate (δ15N-NO3) was applied as a tool to assess and identify sources of the nutrient in aquatic environment.

Fertilizers are one of the costly inputs but continue to exert significant contribution to produce additional food grains. To realize maximum benefits and reduce nutrient losses from fertilizers, they must be applied in the right quantity, source and combination at the right time using the right method.

The soil saprotrophic community is responsible for utilization of dead plant material and for its transformation into nutrients available for plants; in general the saprotrophic community makes a great contribution to ecosystem functioning and stability. Myriapoda diversity, abundance, and community structure, as part of the soil community, are one of the markers for evaluating ecosystem quality.

Greens are among the most productive plants in terms of nutritional value per unit area, because they grow rapidly and can have several crops in a season. They contribute sufficient amounts of vitamin A and C and several minerals even after losing some of the constituents while cooking. The need for green food is being greatly emphasized owing to the increase in knowledge of value of essential minerals and vitamins. They could be used as an important source of nutrients during the pre-cropping season, before traditional crops are available for human consumption.

The growth of horticultural crops is economically rewarding. This sector is expected to grow and contribute to food and nutritional security, provided, the sector is nurtured with focused infrastructure development and has a conducive policy environment. Fruit and vegetables are packed full of goodness and often contain a number of essential vitamins and minerals that cannot be found in other types of foods or they may contain higher levels of these nutrients than other foods.
