  • Ebook "Jellyfish blooms: New problems and solutions" is the third volume in this series. Syntheses and original research articles provide an identification key for the ephyrae of 18 common scyphozoan species, document the Mediterranean-wide bloom of the invasive ctenophore Mnemiopsis leidyi, and address the direct effects of ocean acidification on jellyfish for the first time. The influence of climate change on jellyfish blooms is covered in several papers.

  • Ebook "The cryosphere" introduces readers to the cryosphere and the broader role it plays in our global climate system. After giving a concise overview, he fully explains each component of the cryosphere and how it works—seasonal snow, permafrost, river and lake ice, sea ice, glaciers, ice sheets, and ice shelves. Marshall describes how snow and ice interact with our atmosphere and oceans and how they influence climate, sea level, and ocean circulation.

  • Ebook "Geochemistry of organic matter in river-sea systems" is important for the following reasons: information about organic matter transport by rivers is required for estimating total run-off of dissolved and suspended substances from the earth's surface into seas and oceans. They give a possibility to judge the quantity and the quality of organic matter in various climatic zones of the Earth, sources of organic matter, peculiarities of its transformation and migration in various sections of the rivers, from the head to the mouth.

  • Ebook "Intraseasonal variability in the atmosphere-ocean climate system" offers successive chapters that deal with the role of ISV in monsoon variability on the monsoon regions of South Asia, East Asia and South America, in North America, and in the oceans. The coupling between ocean and atmosphere is considered, together with the function of angular momentum and Earth rotation.

  • Coral reefs and the services it provide are seriously threatened by ocean acidification and climate change impacts like coral bleaching. Carbon dioxide and sea surface temperature are the two most important variable in connection to coral bleaching events. Understanding effects of the two is empirical in uncovering new information and relationships of bleaching events with local and global environmental properties (SST and CO2).

  • Life in the ocean will increasingly have to contend with a complex matrix of concurrent shifts in environmental properties that impact their physiology and control their life histories. Rhodoliths are coralline red algae (Corallinales, Rhodophyta) that are photosynthesizers, calcifiers, and ecosystem engineers and therefore represent important targets for ocean acidification (OA) research.

  • The red sea urchin Mesocentrotus franciscanus is an ecologically important kelp forest herbivore and an economically valuable wild fishery species. To examine how M. franciscanus responds to its environment on a molecular level, differences in gene expression patterns were observed in embryos raised under combinations of two temperatures (13 °C or 17 °C) and two pCO2 levels (475 μatm or 1050 μatm).

  • Climate change has become one of the most contentious as well as pressing issue of our times. Changes and variations in rainfall pattern and temperature have already begun to adversely affect capture and culture fish production. The impactful scientific literature produced on climate change in relation to fisheries was tracked for period since 1990 till 2018. The open source freeware Publish or Perish (PoP) desktop application was used to retrieve the scientific articles, which were then subjected to scientometric study.

  • The Monterey Bay Region benefits from science-based adaptation planning that places value on a healthy social-ecological ecosystem. We co-developed a methodological engagement framework to support an iterative place-based process among natural resource managers, the planning community, and the community of technical experts (e.g., economists, scientists, lawyers). In collaboration with local decision makers, we are evaluating the effects of adaptation strategies on ecosystem services provided by natural dune and wetland systems to inform decision making at the local government level.

  • Over the years there has been growing interest regarding the effects of climatic variations on marine biodiversity. The exclusive economic zones of South Pacific Islands and territories are home to major international exploitable stocks of albacore tuna (Thunnus alalunga); however the impact of climatic variations on these stocks is not fully understood. This study was aimed at deter-mining the climatic variables which have impact on the time series stock fluctuation pattern of albacore tuna stock in the Eastern and Western South Pacific Ocean which was divided into three zones.

  • Despite the arid to hyperarid climate of the Great Sahara of North Africa, pluvial climates dominated the region. Radar data shed some light on the postulated Trans-African Drainage System and its relationship to active and inactive tributaries of the Nile basin. Interpretations of recent elevation data confirm a source of the river water from the Red Sea highlands did not connect the Atlantic Ocean across Tushka basin, highlands of Uwinate and Darfur, and Chad basin, but northward to the ancestral Nile Delta. Elements of topography and climate were considered.

  • Sea level rise for Vietnam East Sea in the 21st century was determined under both RCP 4.5 and RCP 8.5 scenarios. Changes in sea level of the Vietnam East Sea due to dynamic and thermosteric processes was estimated using results of different Atmosphere - Ocean General Circulation Model (AOGCMs) under the prescribed method in the IPCC’s Fifth Assessment Report (AR5). Changes in sea level due to ice melting and land water storage was determined using a transfer function for global water balance based on the contribution of each sea level rise contributing component for different regions.
