Informational products are very easy to produce if you already have some knowledge on a subject that is considered valuable by others. Fortunately, given the huge diversity across the web, it’s hard to come up with an informational topic that is not of value to somebody. For example, if you want to write a report on how to save money on your taxes, and you’ve been working for the IRS for ten years, then it’s just a matter of organizing what you already know and laying it out into a report....

The two group I introns Nae.L1926 and Nmo.L2563, found at two different sites in nuclear LSU rRNA genes of Naegleria amoebo-flagellates, have been characterized in vitro. Their structural organization is related to that of the mobile Physarum intron Ppo.L1925 (PpLSU3) with ORFs extending the L1-loop of a typical group IC1 ribozyme. Nae.L1926, Nmo.L2563 and Ppo.L1925 RNAs all selfsplice in vitro, generating ligated exons and full-length intron circles as well as internal processed excised intron RNAs....

Starch defines a semicrystalline polymer made of two different polysaccharide fractions. The A- and B-type crystalline lattices define the distinct structures reported in cereal and tuber starches, respectively. Amylopectin, the major fraction of starch, is thought to be chiefly responsible for this semicrystalline organization while amylose is generally considered as an amorphous polymer with little or no impact on the overall crystalline organization.

PII-like proteins are signal transduction proteins found in bacteria, archaea and eukaryotes. They mediate a variety of cellular responses. A second PII-like protein, called GlnK, has been found in several organisms. In the diazotroph Herbaspirillum seropedicae, PII protein is involved in sensing nitrogen levels and controlling nitrogen fixation genes. In this work, the crystal structure of the unliganded H. seropedicae PII was solved by X-ray diffraction. H. seropedicae PII has a Gly residue, Gly108 preceding Pro109 and the main-chain forms a b turn. ...

Recently, we have identified and purified minisatellite DNA binding proteins (MNBPs) that bind to the mouse hypervariable minisatellite Pc-1, from NIH3T3 cells. This study describes the isolation and characterization of a mouse leucine-rich protein (mLRP130) as one of the MNBPs that binds to the C-rich strand of Pc-1. The mLRP130 cDNA was demonstrated to encode a polypeptide of 1306 aminoacid residues with a deduced molecular mass of 137 kDa, and the mLRP130 mRNA is detected in various organs, including heart, brain, liver, skeletal muscle, kidneys and testes.

Comparative analysis of genome sequence data from mesophilic and hyperthermophilic micro-organisms has revealed a strong bias against specific thermolabile aminoacid residues (i.e. N and Q) in hyperthermophilic proteins. The N þ Q content of class II xylose isomerases (XIs) from mesophiles, moderate thermophiles, and hyperthermophiles was examined.

The human MUC4 gene encodes a large membrane-associated mucin, characterized by a mucin tandem repeat domain and a growth factor-like transmembrane domain. In addition to the originally published sequence (sv0-MUC4), several MUC4 cDNA sequences (called sv1-MUC4 to sv21MUC4, MUC4/X, MUC4/Y) from various tissues and cell lines have been recently described. They differ from sv0MUC4 by deletions and/or insertions located in the 3¢ region or, for two of them, by deletion of the central repetitive domain.

Prolamellar bodies (PLB) contain two photochemically active forms of the enzyme protochlorophyllide oxidoreductase POR-PChlide640 and POR-PChlide650 (the spectral forms of POR-Chlide complexes with absorption maxima at the indicated wavelengths). Resuspension of maize PLB in media with a pH below 6.8 leads to a rapid conversion of POR-PChlide650 to POR-PChlide640 and a dramatic re-organization of the PLB membrane system. In the absence of excess NADPH, the absorption maximum of the POR complex undergoes a further shift to about 635 nm....
