Oxygen conserving

Oxygen is an essential therapy for hypoxemia but is scarce in low-income settings. Oxygen conserving devices optimize delivery, but to date have been designed for adults in high-income settings. Here we present the development and clinical pilot study of an oxygen-sparing nasal reservoir cannula (OSNRC) for pediatric use in low-income settings.

Immersion of painted idols and addition of organic wastes in the lake water, as a part of religious activities, is a common religious practice in India. These activities add to the contamination of water with alkali, alkaline earth metals and heavy metals and therefore, degrade water quality and limit conservation of good quality water in the lakes. In this pretext, periodic analysis of Madiwala and Lalbagh lake water were carried out to investigate the impact of idol immersion activities on the lake water quality.

Globins are the most common type of oxygen-binding protein in annelids. In this paper, we show that circulating intracellular globin (Alvinella pom-pejanaandGlycera dibranchiata), noncirculating intracellular globin (Areni-cola marina myoglobin) and extracellular globin from various annelids share a similar gene structure, with two conserved introns at canonical positions B12.2 and G7.0.

Subunit 4 of cytochromecoxidase (CcO) is a nuclear-encoded regulatory subunit of the terminal complex of the mitochondrial electron transport chain. We have recently discovered an isoform of CcO 4 (CcO4-2) which is specific to lung and trachea, and is induced after birth. The role of CcO as the major cellular oxygen consumer, and the lung-specific expression of CcO4-2, led us to investigate CcO4-2gene regulation.

The charged quaternary ammonium compounds – methyl, ethyl and benzyl viologens – generate reactive oxygen species in photosynthetic cells. Three independent methyl viologen-resistant spontaneous mutants of Synechocys-tis sp. PCC 6803 were identified, in which the conserved R115 residue of the Slr1174 protein was replaced with G115, L115 and C115.
