  • Ninety-three early generation sugarcane clones were evaluated for different morphological and juice quality characters among early generation sugarcane clones. Highest genotypic coefficient of variance (GCV) and phenotypic coefficient of variance (PCV) were recorded for Number of millable cane (NMC) and single cane weight respectively. High heritability coupled with high genetic advance as percent of means was observed for germination percent, NMC/hectare, cane height and inter node length. It indicated that direct selection of those traits would be effective.

  • What is an important food crop in India but of the entire world. The study indicates that the analysis of the variance showed highly significant differences for all the characters. Genetic variability indicated that high estimates of GCV and PCV were observed for the traits like 1000 grain weight, grains per spike, spikelets per spike, spike length and yield per plot. Further, high heritability coupled with high genetic advance as percent of mean was also observed, indicating the less influence of environmental variance in these characters.

  • Genetic variability, heritability and genetic advance as percent of mean for 12 characters were assessed by field evalution observed for all the characters considered for the study. The analysis of variance indicated presence of significant variability among the genotypes for all the characters. Moderate GCV and higher PCV values indicated presence of substantial genetic variability and less environmental influence for average dry fruit weight, dry fruit yield per plant, and capsaicin content.

  • An experiment was conducted with 15 early maturing sugarcane clones to study the genetic variability for yield and associated characters. The analysis of variance revealed highly significant differences among the clones for all twenty three characters. The Variability studies showed moderate estimates of GCV and PCV for traits viz., germination percent, cane diameter at harvest, pol percent in juice at 8 month stage, CCS percent at 8 month, sugar yield and cane yield at harvest.

  • An experiment was conducted with fifteen early maturing sugarcane clones to assess the genetic parameters for various productive traits. The analysis of variance revealed highly significant differences among the clones for twenty one traits and significant for rest traits viz., purity at 8 month & pol in cane at harvest. The Variability studies showed moderate estimates of GCV and PCV for traits viz., single cane weight and cane yield at harvest.
