  • Morbilliviruses are categorized under the family of Paramyxoviridae and have been associated with severe diseases, such as Peste des petits ruminants, canine distemper and measles with evidence of high morbidity and/or could cause major economic loss in production of livestock animals, such as goats and sheep. Feline morbillivirus (FeMV) is one of the members of Morbilliviruses that has been speculated to cause chronic kidney disease in cats even though a definite relationship is still unclear.

  • A total of 119 different clinical samples (nasal swab, conjunctival swabs, oral swabs and tissue samples) from sheep and goats were collected from the area under study for detection of PPR antigen by Sandwich-ELISA. Out of 119 clinical samples, 37 samples were found positive in small ruminants by S-ELISA, giving an overall incidence rate of 31.09 % (37/119).

  • A Peste des petits ruminant (PPR) is a highly contagious viral disease of sheep and goats characterized by high morbidity and mortality. The present study was conducted to determine comparative efficacy of F and N gene based reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction for molecular detection of PPR virus from clinical samples from goat flocks in Ambala district of Haryana.

  • Peste des petits ruminants (PPR) is an OIE notifiable, highly contagious and fatal disease of small ruminants causing significant economic losses to the farmers in term of morbidity, mortality, preventive and treatment measures cost. The present study report three outbreaks of PPR in two districts of Punjab state affecting migratory flocks of goats in 2016-17. Younger animals were more susceptible to PPR than adults. None of the affected animals were vaccinated against PPR.

  • Micro RNAs have been recognized to play vital role in viral replication and pathogenesis. Circulatory miRNAs found in body fluid in stable, cell free form may be correlated with different stages of Peste des Petits Ruminanats (PPR) infection. The present study was focused to profile expression of circulatory miR-21-3p in serum of PPRV infected and apparently healthy goats in natural condition.

  • A prevalence study of PPR among small ruminants was conducted in five districts (Udaipur, Dungarpur, Rajsamand, Chittorgarh and Banswara) of southern Rajasthan including both vaccinated and unvaccinated flocks of sheep and goats. The overall seroprevalence of PPR virus antibodies in vaccinated small ruminants is 42% with highest prevalence in Chittorgarh (54.95%) and lowest in Banswara (12%). In unvaccinated group, the overall seroprevalence is 42.18% with highest prevalence in Banswara (66.07%) and lowest prevalence in Udaipur district (19.04%).

  • Peste-des-petits ruminants (PPR) is an economically devastating viral disease of sheep and goats. In the present study, we have evaluated the reactivity profile of the recombinant non-structural protein C of PPR virus with vaccinated and convalescent goat sera in an indirect ELISA. The antibody against this protein is getting produced in both vaccinated as well as in convalescent animals.

  • Peste-des-petits-ruminants (PPR) is a transboundary viral disease of small ruminants. In the present study, the full length C gene was amplified from PPR vaccine virus (Sungri/96) and expressed in a prokaryotic expression system. Specificity of the recombinant C protein was confirmed through immune-blot using anti-His conjugate and hyperimmune sera from goats. The immunogenicity of the protein was assessed using monospecific sera raised in goats. The recombinant C protein produced in this study will be useful for the development of DIVA enabled vaccine and diagnostics.

  • An outbreak of peste des petits ruminants (PPR) had occurred in Khanapara area of Guwahati district, Assam. A total of 25 numbers of goats were found to be affected with PPR revealing characteristic signs of respiratory distress, high fever, anorexia, diarrhoea, abdominal cramps, reluctance to move and so forth. Extremely high rate of morbidity (100%) was recorded in the affected animals. Following prompt treatment, the mortality rate was reduced to 12.5% with complete recovery being observed in 7 days time.

  • Peste-des-petits Ruminants (PPR) is a disease of small ruminants especially goat and its control and eradication till 2030 wants an extensive research to develop a potent vaccine. The role of surface HN protein in the attachment of the virus to cellular receptors makes it an appropriate target to develop a theranostics against the virus. In this study, cytotoxic T cells epitopes that will bind to MHC class I alleles were predicted out using bioinformatic tools.

  • Peste des petits ruminants (PPRV) is a highly contagious transboundary viral disease of small ruminants with widespread distribution and poorly characterized molecular pathogenesis. The present study aimed at delineating the role of NF-kB signalling pathway during PPRV infection in the in-vitro system. For this the gene expression of three major regulatory proteins of NF-kB pathway viz. IKBα, IKKβ and RelA were analysed in the PPRV infected and mock infected Vero cells as a function of time using SYBR-green based one-step RT-qPCR.
