Compare to other documents, our study was for the first time validated the quality criteria of ICP-MS for analyzing nineteen metal levels in wastewater samples. The application of this method was then tested by analyzing nineteen metal levels in twenty-three wastewater samples in the Tham Luong Canal in Ho Chi Minh City. Based on these results, the correlation of the concentration of these metals in wastewater samples was determined.

Analysis of samples which were taken at Yangshan port in China in 2011, 2012 to assess the level of heavy metal pollution of heavy metals and petroleum hydrocarbon with two main purposes; the first is to evaluate the main pollutants and their pollution level; the second is to evaluate the impact of operations on the port to environmental quality. The application of Grey clustering model to assess heavy metals and petroleum hydrocarbons shows that the heavy metals and petroleum hydrocarbons in sea water at Yangshan Port was at grade I.

Microorganisms play a vital role incleaning up the environment by degrading the pollutants like monoaromatics andpolycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons(PAHs) which are toxic andare among the most prevalent and persistent pollutants inthe environment. Soil contaminated with petroleum generally contains a mixtureof polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) and heterocyclic aromatics.

The bio-recovery of three different oil-polluted tropical soils – RS (oil-polluted soil sample from River state), LS (soil sample from NNPC depot, Lagos) and POS (oil-polluted soil sample from Oriade L.G.A., Lagos) by manure amendment was studied for eight weeks. The rates of crude oil biodegradation after manure application as quantified by Gas chromatographic analysis of residual total petroleum hydrocarbon (TPH) showed the same trend of decrease in the total petroleum hydrocarbons in both the LS and RS series.

The phenomenon of the oil spill in the marine ecosystem is one of the major issues which causes the introduction of petroleum hydrocarbon pollutants and leads to a significant threat to the environment. It can occur either naturally or from anthropogenic sources such as those caused by tanker accidents, refineries, drilling operations, or even storage facilities.

Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) are an important group of organic pollutants. They are ubiquitous environmental pollutants generated primarily during the incomplete combustion of organic materials (e.g. coal, oil, petrol, and wood). Emissions from anthropogenic activities are highly responsible for their generation. The demand for processed petroleum products and agricultural produce has exposed our environment to PAH contamination.

This article presents a study of the bacteria bioremediation characters and their heavy metal and antibiotic tolerance from the petroleum contaminated soil located in industrialized areas of Chhattisgarh, India. Soil sediments were characterized by FTIR for the presence of aromatic compounds and further the heterotrophic and fuel degrader counts was estimated. The strains characterized were predominantly from the Bacillus species which showed mixed resistance patterns against antibiotics and heavy metals.

Phenol is a toxic hydrocarbon for nervous system, kidneys, liver, muscles and immune system. It is also mutagenic and possibly carcinogenic. Phenol containing- pollutants are dangerous and spread worldwide in the industrial effluents. The present study aimed to isolate a potent microorganism able to degrade phenol, as well as to evaluate the nutritional and environmental conditions that lead to its maximum degradation. A yeast isolated from petroleum-contaminated soil on MSM supplemented with phenol as sole carbon source, was identified by 28S rDNA sequencing.

Petroleum is a complex mixture composed primarily of aliphatics, alicyclics and aromatic hydrocarbons. This study was to evaluate the potentials of native bacterial population of wastewater environment with the ability for bioremediation of petroleum hydrocarbon polluted natural environment. A fresh water ecosystem west of Lagos state university, Ojo campus that has the history of being fed with both domestic wastewater and spent diesel oil served as source of bacterial samples. Serial dilution technique and total heterotrophic bacterial count for the wastewater was evaluated.

This work focused on monitoring CO2 production, microbial growth and residual hydrocarbon concentration during bioremediation experiments performed on laboratory soil microcosms. A natural soil was artificially contaminated with hexadecane and adjusted with inorganic nutrients to stimulate biodegradation. Microbial growth, CO2 production and residual hexadecane were periodically monitored at different soil water contents ranging from 0.15 to 0.25 g water g -1 of dry soil and at different temperatures ranging from 20 to 25 oC.

: High concentrations of petroleum hydrocarbon (PHC) pollution can be hazardous to human health and leave soils incapable of supporting agricultural crops. A cheap solution, which can help restore biodiversity and bring land back to productivity, is cultivation of high biomass yielding willow trees.

Petroleum oil sludge resulting from crude oil storage, illegal crude oil refining and bunkering activities constitutes environmental hazards and pollution in the crude oil producing communities in the Niger Delta region of Nigeria. Biostimulation with N.P.K. fertilizer option C, bioargumentation with indigenous hydrocarbon utilizing bacteria (HUB) option B, combination of biostimulation and bioaugmentation as option A and option D was without any bioremediation treatment were employed in the bioremediation of brackish water artificially polluted with petroleum oil sludge.

Petroleum-based products are the major source of energy for industry and daily life. Leaks and accidental spills occur regularly during the exploration, production, refining, transport, and storage of petroleum and petroleum products. Crude oil-impacted tropical soil and natural water samples (0 - 30cm depth) were obtained from the Niger Delta, Nigeria. A total of twenty seven bacterial species of relevance in bioremediation were isolated and characterized using standard and conventional methods. The predominant species belong to the genera Pseudomonas and Proteus.

Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) are chemical compounds that contain aromatic rings and do not contain heteroaryl or substituted groups. PAHs are found in petroleum, coal, and plastics; Moreover, PAHs are also found in foods, especially in cooked or grilled meats. These compounds are pollutants and identified as carcinogenic, mutagenic and teratogenic in humans. The goal of this paper was to develop a process to analyze the content of 16 common PAHs in grilled pork by mass spectrometry (GC-MS) using standard internal substances.
