Phalaenopsis orchid

Quang Truc forest (QTF) is a remote area in the South-West of Dak Nong province, Vietnam, which is well known for valuable timber species representative for central highland of Vietnam with different globally and nationally threatened species. However, the general understanding of plant diversity of QTF has been still poorly known. The objectives of this paper are to figure out the plant diversity of QTF and compare that with other protected forest areas in Dak Nong province, in order to provide scientific evidences for conservation and sustainable development.

The paper presents the research and design of an automatic monitoring care system for Phalaenopsis Orchid. The central device is designed based on the Atmega16 microcontroller to control. The sensors measure the temperature, humidity and soil moisture around the orchid integrated in the device to assess the ecological condition of the plant.

Phalaenopsis is one of the most remarkable commercial genera in Orchidaceae family. Using immature explants for tissue culture of orchid results in undesired characteristics such as genetic variation and long-lasting juvenility. An investigation was carried out to find out the effect of water soluble fertilizers on growth of orchid (Phalaenopsis Hybrid) cv. Shagan at BTCC, Orissa University of Agriculture and Technology, Bhubaneswar, Odisha during the period January 2016 to March 2017. Phalaenopsis orchids occupy a top position in the international market as pot plant. Commonly used media for growing Phalaenopsis orchid are coconut husk chips, tree bark, fir bark, cocopeat and sphagnum moss. Growing medium is important as it provides anchorage, retains moisture, nutrients and aerates the roots. In addition to these functions, a study was carried out to assess the possible growth promoting effects of sphagnum moss on orchids when used as growing medium. Eight month old hardened plants of Phalaenopsis ‘Magic Kiss’ were used for the trial.
