Phenologic observations

This study was carried out to determine the effects of protected cultivation on the earliness, yield, and fruit quality characteristics of some low chill peach-nectarine cultivars grown in the eastern Mediterranean region of Turkey. Phenological observations, yield parameters, and fruit quality characteristics were investigated. The chilling durations as CH (chilling hours), CU (chilling unit), and heat accumulations were determined. The ‘Astoria’ cultivar reached the highest cumulative yield of 29.11 kg/tree and 38.72 t/ha, and fruit size was 131.89 g and 61.74 mm in protected cultivation.

The paper presents the morphology of the flower of Iris aphylla L., which is a protected species in many European countries. The study comprises phenological observations of flowering and assessment of nectar and pollen production, and flowering and fruiting abundance. Additionally, the number of insect visitors on the flowers was monitored. The investigations of specimens originating from 4 populations in central-eastern Poland (Wyżyna Lubelska Upland) were conducted in the Botanical Garden of Maria Curie-Skłodowska University.

The influence of two factors - "broomrape" and "soil type" on quantities of seven trophic groups of soil microorganisms (Autochthonous; Oligotrophic; Actinomycetes; Microscopic fungi; Ammonifying; Assimilating mineral nitrogen; Aerobic nitrogen-fixing bacteria of the genus Azotobacter) were determined. In North West Plain Zone (NWPZ), where the hot, dry wind is frequent during grain filling, wheat cultivars suffer from loss of grain weight because of low grain filling rate. A field study was carried out under normal sown conditions to evaluate the phenological variation in forty wheat genotypes. Significant genotypic differences were observed for most of the traits. WH 1105, WH 1138 and HD 2967 had the highest grain yield per plant 1150.0, 1136.7 and 1103.3 g/plot respectively.

Each treatment comprised of one pole having 4 (four) plants. The observations were recorded on days to first flower, flower length, androecium characters, gynoecium characters and different parts of perianth was observed. The days required to first flower was 431.25 days with application of N 350 P2O5250 K2O 200 g/pole and flowering became earlier by nearly 15 days over control. Among the different flower parameters, the length of upper, inner, outer and lower free perianth, style, stamen and the ovary were only significantly influenced due to the different treatments.

In the present investigation lentil genotypes; one macrosperma (IPL-406) and the other microsperma (HUL-57) were subjected to drought stress at mid-vegetative, flowerinitiation and pod-formation stages by withholding irrigation. We observed that drought stress of various phenophases significantly decreased shoot length (8% - 22%), leaf area (23% - 52%), CMS (26% - 58%) and phenological developments (0 - 14 DAS) but increased root length (14% - 63%) of plants. The present study was conducted to evaluate 38 greengram genotypes to determinethe nature and extent of variation in the phenological traits related to synchronous maturity. A field trial was laid under a Randomized Block Design (RBD) with three replications; observations were recorded on 17 morphological characters. Analysis of variance revealed significant variation among genotypes for all the characters except for 100 seed weight. Different genotypes were found superior for different characters.

The experiment was conducted during three consecutive year i e, 2013-14, 2014-15, 2015- 16 to show the effect of fertigation on phenology and vegetative growth of the plants and nutrients uptake by the leaves. Result of three years pooled data showed that increase in plant height (35.81 cm), trunk girth (4.42 mm) canopy volume (1.94 m3 ), growth of current season shoot (9.08 cm), leaf area (31.52 cm2 ) and leaf area index (5.54) were responses more under higher doses of fertigation i e 120 % RDF followed by 100 % RDF.

This compilation includes various diseases observed in Zoba-Anseba, Eritrea during a decade of time from 2007-2017. The total productive area of horticultural farms in this Zoba is over 26,885 ha and it is one of the most drought-prone regions of Eritrea. Farmers grow crops such cereals, oil seeds, vegetables and fruits etc. Enormous pathogens such as fungi, bacteria and other microbes; nematodes, and intervention of migratory insect pests cause a lot of damage to these crops and finally it leads in yield loss.

The influence of foliar applied plant growth regulators on rice crop was conducted on hybrid rice crop during kharif season’s 2015 and 2016. Application of five growth regulators each in two concentration viz., GA3 20 and 40 ppm, IAA 25 and 50 ppm, NAA 10 and 20 ppm, Triacontanol 5 and 10 ppm, Cycocel 3000 and 4000 ppm and one unsprayed control with foliar sprays at tillering and flowering stages for growth, yield parameters. The observation was recorded at different stages of crop.

The production of grapes for early table consumption is becoming more popular in the Mediterranean region of Turkey. In this study, the cultivation of 5 early table grape cultivars (‘Ergin çekirdeksizi’, ‘Uslu’, ‘Yalova incisi’, ‘Cardinal’, and ‘Perlette’) in the open field and under protected cultivation were compared in 2004-2005 and 2005-2006 seasons.

In order to determine the overall degree of polymorphism and detect similarities among genotypes, 19 almond [Prunus dulcis (Mill.) D.A.Webb] genotypes were studied. Variation in traits related to phenology, morphology, and fruit quality was observed, and the results indicated a high morphological diversity of almond genotypes.
