Ebook "Isoprenoid synthesis in plants and microorganisms: New concepts and experimental approaches" have implications in a myriad of physiological processes notably in plants, microorganisms and parasites, and biological activities at the cellular, organism, and ecosystem levels. The importance of isoprenoids in various areas of the scientific world has spurred intense research worldwide. Also their role in "nutraceuticals" has stimulated scientific curiosity.

Glioblastoma patients commonly develop resistance to temozolomide chemotherapy. Hypoxia, which supports chemotherapy resistance, favors the expansion of glioblastoma stem cells (GSC), contributing to tumor relapse. Because of a deregulated sphingolipid metabolism, glioblastoma tissues contain high levels of the pro-survival sphingosine-1-phosphate and low levels of the pro-apoptotic ceramide.

GAW20 working group 5 brought together researchers who contributed 7 papers with the aim of evaluating methods to detect genetic by epigenetic interactions. GAW20 distributed real data from the Genetics of Lipid Lowering Drugs and Diet Network (GOLDN) study, including single-nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) markers, methylation (cytosine-phosphate-guanine [CpG]) markers, and phenotype information on up to 995 individuals.

Phosphate disturbances are relatively common in hospitalized patients, especially in critically ill patients. The abnormal phosphate levels may indicate an abnormal body condition. However, little is known about the association between elevated serum phosphate and outcome in critically ill elderly patients. Therefore, the purpose of the present study was to investigate the association between early elevated phosphate and mortality in critically ill elderly patients.

With glucose as the starting material, sodium tripolyphosphate as the phosphorus acylating agent, and urea as the catalyst, glucose 1-phosphate was synthesized and its properties were analyzed. The synthesis conditions were selected according to the phosphorus content and optimized through the response surface methodology (RSM), based on a 3-level, 3-variable Box–Behnken experimental design.

Optimization of the LiFePO4 cathode active material synthesis process in the hydrothermal method consists of many factors, including pH, carbon coating, particle size optimization, sintering and hydrothermal synthesis temperature. The main goal of this study is to determine the effect of particle size, pH and carbon coating on capacity and cycle performance. In this study, LiFePO4 cathode active materials were prepared at different pH (6.5 and 8.5) and temperature (160 and 180◦C) levels using the hydrothermal method.

Amorphous cerium phosphate was prepared and characterized. Three-level Box-Behnken design (BBD) was employed to analyze the effect of process variables such as initial pH (2–6), contact time (60–180 min), and sorbent amount (0.05–0.15 g) on the sorption capacity of europium. Analysis of variance (ANOVA) revealed that the main effect of initial pH and sorbent amount has a substantial impact on the sorption of Eu(III). Probability F-value (F = 3 × 10 −3 ) and correlation coefficient (R2 = 0.97) point out that the model is in good accordance with experimental data.

Formation of nucleosomes along eukaryotic DNA has an impact on transcription. Major transcriptional changes occur in response to low external phosphate (Pi) in plants, but the involvement of chromatin-level mechanisms in Pi starvation responses have not been investigated.

Small RNAs (sRNAs) are 20–30 nt regulatory elements which are responsible for plant development regulation and participate in many plant stress responses. Insufficient inorganic phosphate (Pi) concentration triggers plant responses to balance the internal Pi level.

The influence of soil moisture on the infection, hyphal development and uptake of P of a VA mycorrhizal fungus Glomus fasciculatum in Quinoa was studied at four different moisture levels (-0.2; -0.6; -1.2 and -2.4 MPa). Maximum increase in dry weight was observed at -0.2 MPa level. There was a proportionate increase in total P content in shoot and root of a plant at decreased moisture levels.

Enhancement in phosphorus (P) efficiency of crop plants require a better understanding of alterations in root architecture phenes and physio-biochemical processes under phosphorus deprived condition. This study analyzed the morpho-physiological and biochemical alterations associated with P efficiency of crop. Six pigeonpea [Cajanus cajan (L.) Millsp] genotypes (AL1758, AL1817, AL201, H005, ICPL93081, and ICPL88039) were tested under two P treatments [P fertilizer not added in soil and recommended dose of P (Single Super phosphate @ 250kg/ ha)].

Endophytic bacteria isolated from the Oryza sativa plant were evaluated for phosphate solubilisation. Five of these isolates that showed good phosphate solubilising activity were characterised at molecular level and tested for phosphate solubilisation using three different sources viz tricalcium phosphate (TCP), aluminium phosphate (AlPO4) and iron phosphate (FePO4). Based on 16s rRNA gene sequence analysis the isolates were identified as Pantoeaa ananatis, Pseudomonas putida, Brevibacillus agri, Bacillus subtilis and Bacillus megaterium.
