Rice is the staple food for half of the world's population. Phosphorus is an essential element for rice plant growth, development and production; however, the availability of soluble phosphate for plant uptake is often limited due to the binding with cation in different pH environments. Therefore, the development of rice plant varieties, which can grow well under a limited phosphate environment, is an urgent need for agricultural development for biotechnology.

This study was performed to investigate the effect of biochar manufactured from agriculture residues for the stabilization of lead, cadmium and chromium (Pb, Cd and Cr) in artificially contaminated soil. A surface loamy sand soil was spiked with Pb, Cd and Cr at 200, 400 and 600 mg kg−1.

Tea and hazelnut cultivated soils are mainly distributed in Black Sea region of Turkey. Low pH value is a primary problem for those soils; therefore, farmers apply lime once every 3–4 years to raise the pH value of soil. Gyttja is highly rich in organic matter (40.59%) and lime (45.67%), and it is a low cost and considerably abundant in Afşin-Elbistan Coal Basin (estimated reserve is around 4.8 billion tons). The aim of this study was to determine the phosphorus (P) sorption characteristics of gyttja, and its efficiency on P availability and soil’s pH value.

White lupin (Lupinus albus) is a leguminous crop with elite adaptive ability in phosphorus-deficient soil and used as a model plant for studying phosphorus (P) use. However, the genetic basis of its adaptation to low P (LP) remains unclear. ATPase binding cassette (ABC) transports G subfamily play a crucial role in the transportation of biological molecules across the membrane. To date, identification of this subfamily has been analyzed in some plants, but no systematic analysis of these transporters in phosphorus acquisition is available for white lupin.

A field investigation was conducted at Instructional farm of Krishi Vigyan Kendra Kendrapara, Odisha during kharif and rabi seasons of 2013-14 and 2014-15 in ricegroundnut cropping system under irrigated medium land situation. The soil of the experimental site was sandy loam in texture with pH of 5.7, organic carbon of 0.52 % having available soil nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium of 390.9 kg/ha, 10.1 kg/ha and 190.1 kg/ha respectively.

Phosphorus (P) is one of the major essential macronutrients for biological growth and metabolism of plants. Tea (Camellia sinensis L) plantation requires adequate amount of P for the proper yield of tea leaves. However, due to acidic nature of tea growing soils, phosphorus fixation is a common phenomenon. In the present study, a considerable build up in soil organic carbon under tree canopy as compared to open canopy was found and soil organic carbon under tree canopy decreased with an increase in soil depth and increasing canopy distance. The total nitrogen percentage in soil decreased with an increase in depth and canopy. In case of available soil phosphorus, it decreased under the tree canopy with increasing soil depth and canopy distance.

Investigation indicates that valuable effects of biochar could be obtained if it was applied with mycorrhiza. Combined application of biochar (10 t ha-1 soil), phosphorus along with mycorrhiza produced significantly higher uptake of nutrients in baby corn. Biochars are highly variable in nutrient composition and availability, which are determined by types of feedstock and pyrolysis conditions. The results suggest that high-ash biochars with phosphorus are potential P sources with high-agronomic efficiency.

This study clearly showed the benefit of P availability in combination with Rhizobium on leaf area, leghaemoglobin content, nitrate reductase activities of leaves and nodules, fresh and dry weight of nodules and fresh weights of stem + leaves at vegetative and flowering stages. Yield components, pod number and seed number were significantly increased by P availability by fertilizer alone and in combination with Rhizobium or through Rhizobium +Microphos.

Nine typical pedons from Langate Block of Kupwara district during 2017 were selected and surveyed for the purpose of collection of soil samples. The soil samples processed and analyzed for different nutrients. Available Micro and Macro nutrients were determined using standard techniques. The overall results showed that the soils are near slightly acidic to moderate alkaline in reaction, low to medium in organic carbon. In general the soils The available nutrients Nitrogen and Potassium were low to medium with the mean values of 287.99 and 149.
