Geometry optimizations and TD-DFT calculations have been carried out on series of fused-ring-expanded phthalonitriles, phthalocyanines, and aza-dipyrromethene boron difluoride (aza-BODIPY) dyes and trends in their optical and redox properties have been analyzed. The potential utility of fused-ring-expanded phthalocyanine and aza-BODIPY analogues for photodynamic therapy and near infrared region sensor applications is assessed on this basis.

Novel water-soluble metallophthalocyanines (M: Co, Ni, Cu, Zn) containing azo dye were characterized. The structures were confirmed by IR, UV/vis, 1H NMR, 13C NMR, mass spectroscopy, and elemental analysis. Photochemical properties and aggregation behavior of zinc phthalocyanines were investigated. Singlet oxygen quantum yields of the zinc phthalocyanines (2d, 3d, 5d, and 6d) were 0.8, 0.57, 0.71, and 0.46, respectively.

Titanium dioxide/phthalocyanine (TiO2/Pc), TiO2/fluor containing phthalocyanine (TiO2/FPc), and TiO2/fluor containing cobalt phthalocyanine (TiO2/FCoPc) had been successfully fabricated by a simple combination of phthalocyanines obtained by insitu synthesis on the surface of TiO2 nanofibers prepared by electrospinning. Scanning electron microscopy micrographs and X-ray diffraction analysis indicated that the phthalocyanines uniformly immobilized on the surface of TiO2 nanofibers.

We prepared novel unsymmetrical A3B-type zinc and cobalt phthalocyanines bearing monocarboxylic acid groups on peripheral positions using statistical condensation method, especially designed to anchor on the TiO2 semiconductor surface. The novel complexes were anchored on TiO2 semiconductor to prepare effective dye sensitized photoactive composites as heterogeneous catalysts. The results indicated that modified TiO2 nanocrystals possessed only the anatase phase and MPc-TiO2 photocatalysts with loading amount of dye ca. 8.27 µmol/g TiO2 exhibit strong visible light absorption.

New derivatives of 2(3),9(10),16(17),23(24)-tetrakis-(6-methylpyridin-2-yloxy)phthalocyanine (Pc) (2b, 2c, and 2d) were synthesized and their structures were characterized by elemental analysis, IR, 1 H NMR, and high-resolution mass spectrometry. The spectral results were in line with the proposed structures. The photodegradation of Orange G (OG) dye in DMSO by the Pc derivatives was investigated. The compounds showed relatively high photodegradation rates that increased with increasing size of the central atoms.

This work reports on dyeing of nylon/elastane fabric with water-soluble phthalocyanines (1-4) bearing quinoline 5-sulfonic acid substituents on the peripheral or nonperipheral positions and determining the antibacterial efficiency of the phthalocyanine compounds and the dyed nylon/elastane fabrics. The light, washing, water, perspiration, and rubbing fastness properties of nylon/elastane fabrics dyed with phthalocyanines were also determined. The results showed that all dyed fabrics showed very good wet fastness values.

The evaluation process should fully take into account variations within a media type. For example, a number of different dye and metal layer combinations are available for CD-Rs. In this example, CD-Rs with a gold reflective layer and phthalocyanine-based dyes have been assessed, since recent research suggests that these are the most stable, and have the greatest life span.
