Metal-free phthalocyanine 3 and its metallophthalocyanine derivatives 4, 5, and 6 (M = Zn, Co, and Ni) substituted with four 21-membered pentathiadiaza macrocycles were synthesized and their structures identified by elemental analysis, IR, 1 H NMR, mass, and UV-Vis spectroscopy techniques. The aggregation properties of phthalocyanines 4, 5, and 6 were investigated in different solvents and at different concentrations of dimethylformamide.

The synthesis of a 4-(2,2-diphenylethoxy)phthalonitrile (1) and its organosoluble free base (2), zinc(II) (3), nickel(II) (4), and cobalt(II) (5) phthalocyanine derivatives is presented in this work. The novel complexes were characterized by elemental analyses and spectral data such as infrared, nuclear magnetic resonance, ultraviolet visible, and mass data. General tendencies were described for photophysics (fluorescence) and photochemistry (photodegradation and singlet oxygen quantum yields) of the free base and zinc(II) phthalocyanine derivatives in dimethylformamide.

Four metallo (zinc, copper, vanadyl, and indium) phthalocyanine derivatives bearing four aliphatic (hexylthio) groups were prepared from corresponding phthalonitrile compounds. The metallophthalocyanines were characterized with ultraviolet–visible spectroscopy (UV-Vis), proton nuclear magnetic resonance (1H NMR), Fourier transform-infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), and mass and elemental analyses techniques. Aggregation properties of metallophthalocyanines in solution were studied in varied concentration ranges. Thin films of metallophthalocyanines were obtained by spin coating technique.

In this work, phthalonitrile (3) and zinc(II) phthalocyanine (4) were prepared. To determine the photodynamic therapy potential of compound 4, singlet oxygen quantum yield, DNA binding and cleavage, and topoisomerase I inhibition experiments were performed. The singlet oxygen quantum yield value of compound 4 was found higher than that of the standard unsubstituted zinc(II) phthalocyanine compound (Std-ZnPc). The binding experiments showed that compound 4 interacted with ct-DNA strongly via nonintercalation mode.

Phenyl-4,4-di(3,6-dibutoxyphthalonitrile) (3) was synthesized by the reaction of 1,4-phenylenebisboronic acid (1) and 4-bromo-3,6-dibutoxyphthalonitrile (2), using Suzuki cross-coupling reaction. The newly synthesized compound (3) was characterized by FT-IR, MALDI-MS, ESI-MS, 1 H-NMR, 13C-NMR, and 13C-DEPT-135-NMR.

This study reports the 3 new phthalonitrile derivatives, namely 4, 5 Bis-[4-(4-bromophenoxy) phenoxy] phthalonitrile (1), 4,5 Bis-[4-(4-chlorophenoxy) phenoxy]phthalonitrile (2), and 4, 5 Bis[4-(4-fluorophenoxy) phenoxy] phthalonitrile (3). Their octasubstituted zinc phthalocyanines (4, 5, 6) are reported for the first time in this study. The resulting compounds were characterized by utilizing some spectroscopic methods, such as UV-Vis, 1 HNMR, FT-IR spectroscopy, as well as mass spectraand elemental analysis.

The 4-(2-[3,4-dimethoxyphenoxy] phenoxy) phthalonitrile was synthesized as the starting material of new syntheses. Zinc, copper, and cobalt phthalocyanines were achieved by reaction of starting compound with Zn(CH3 COO)2 , CuCl2 , and CoCl2 metal salts. Basic spectroscopic methods such as nuclear magnetic resonance electronic absorption, mass and infrared spectrometry were used in the structural characterization of the compounds. Absorption, excitation, and emission measurements of the fluorescence zinc phthalocyanine compound were also investigated in THF.

In this study, new chalcone compound 1, new phthalonitrile derivatives 2 and 3, new copper(II), manganese(III) phthalocyanines bearing chalcone groups at peripheral or nonperipheral positions were synthesized. Electrochemistry of tetra-(4- {(2E)-3-[2-fluoro-4-(trifluoromethyl)phenyl]prop-2-enoyl}phenoxy) substituted Co(II)Pc and Mn(III)Pcs were studied with cyclic voltammetry (CV) to determine the redox properties of the phthalocyanines.
